How does the tailgate latch work?

 

The latch works smoothly with the help of a modified, needle nose vice grip that is JB welded to the connecting rod inside of it!
Everyone's results may vary greatly!

 

If he had turned the front wheel right or left that would not have been necessary!

But this way he doesn't have to tie it down and with the tailgate down he use the slot to hold it up when he parks it.
I have one of those extended cab extra short beds and I'm not sure it would fit on an angle.
