I've known about this car for years. It was in a local private collection and recently became available. I just got it home yesterday. Overall pretty nice, painted 40 years ago, complete with a 25 louver hood. No plans ... just going to clean it up and we'll see. I do have a few questions. The car hasn't been run in about 6 years. I'm sure it has been discussed here time and again but I don't want to damage the engine so to play it safe I imagine I could shoot a little marvel into the cylinders. Anything else to do or look out for, please let me know. Is this long enough for gas to go bad? I don't have the original crank handle. Seems like it would be the easiest way to turn the motor over. Has anyone created a replacement handle? I'm sure I'll have more questions, but thanks in advance for your ideas.
Sweet! I like PBlaster for freeing stuck stuff. Try and get the tube/nozzle thing up into any open valves inside the spark plug hole. The 59L in my coupe was stuck when I got it.
Gorgeous sedan! Drain the gas and oil, and replace. Squirt the Marvel as you said. I doubt it will fire off right away, so crank it a bit to get the new oil circulating. Before you drive it, check fluid levels in the radiator, trans and rear, and check the brake rods for looseness.
Winner winner... I dig not messing it. Just detail it. Marvel Mystery in the plug holes is also wise, I 'd prefer more than a 'little'. Some more in the gas tank........ But FIRST I'd like to see the tank drained. ( just sayin' that PB stuff when first out, affected my lungs no-go for me )
Beautiful Sedan. I would definitely pull the plugs, oil the cylinders, let them sit and rotate the motor a few times before I started it. Draining the tank and cleaning out the fuel system first is also a great idea. I'm in the process of doing that now too, also on a '32 Sedan that's been sitting, coincidentally. That's a gorgeous car, enjoy it! ironandsteele.com
The gas will be bad. Take the cap off but don’t get your nose too close. You want to give it every opportunity to fire off easily, dump the fuel and flush the lines. Checking for aged lines also.
Sure thing: I don't want to clog up this thread regarding your beautiful Sedan too much, so here is a link with more photos if you want to look and further: Hot Rods - Another "They're Still Out There" Flavored Thread - 1932 Ford | The H.A.M.B. ironandsteele.com
Nice Sedan , should clean up Nice . Mine Apple Green & Dark Green on Fenders . For Hand crank , I think you could make a tool , rod & pin , extension with a pen. Like others said after soaking cylinders You could put in gear rock back & forth My F-H I was able to turn over by hand The Belts , crank with out plugs in .
I remember seeing your thread. Great find!! I'm not worried about clogging the thread...the more pics, the better.
Wiped the dust off and a spritz of shine and it's looking better. Ordered plastic squeeze bottles with a curved tube so I can shoot Marvel to the top of the cylinder wall. Should be here by tomorrow.
A flathead question...this is in the 32. According to a little research, these heads are probably 1933-35. Could the block be 32 with later heads? I've also heard that some late 32 V8's were fitted with the 33 flathead. Anyone know about that?
Look at the bottom of the block in front for the drain petcocks. If they point straight down, it is a 1932 block. If they point toward the outside, it is a 1933 or later block. The intake manifold is at least 1934 or later, as this was when the 2 barrel carburetor was introduced.
I spray/fog in WD40 rather than dumping oil in that only lubes the lower parts of the cylinder. When it first starts, don't forget the cam, lifters and valve stems have been sitting and dry so you'll want to get the RPM up right away to get the oil misting around and those protected.
