I saw a dusty old stock 392 Hemi listed on the local marketplace for $6500. All they could say was that it turns. Is that what they are going for these days? Am I that out of touch? Or is he smokin wacky weed.

I don't know the market that well. But it seems like 392s bring a massive premium over every other early Hemi, even other Chryslers.

Probably ran on an irrigation well. We ran Chrysler flathead six industrials. Sometimes they'd run a week or more straight at a pretty hard pull pumping 8-12" wells 250'to 300'. You could look out into the fieldat night and see the exhaust manifold glowing. Dad used to light his cigarettes off of them.

  5. It appears to be a 1930 AA pick up...
The split where the running board meets the fender and the I guess you would call the side splash apron also has a split basically directly under the cowl says it's a 1930 now that being said the truck is over 90 years old, It could have had that part changed in the 1950s And I would imagine the patina would match by now.

I don't understand this at all. Most of the early hemis are going to be in the same performance ballpark, given the same mods. There are many ways to go a lot faster these days, mostly unmentionable here. Let's face it, if you have an early hemi, it's mainly for looks. 100% of the general public can't tell the difference between a 241 Dodge and a 392 Chrysler, and probably 98% of car guys can't either. I'm not kidding about this after enduring countless bad guesses in the pits after vintage dirt races. I've had several hemi's over the years (I still have 2 331's) and even I can't tell a short bell 331 from a 392 if it's been modified enough. Long bells are a whole different subject.

As a matter of fact, now that I think of it, all early hemi's out there are 392's, just like all small block Chevy's are Corvette engines.

@skooch I know you are just looking, so this won't apply to you. However, if someone here goes to look at it, make sure of the engine placement. The left side exhaust to steering column and the radiator to fan in particular.
Those are the spots where a V8 is tight in these. Check for rust in the trunk and front of he floor, too.

@tubman , biggest cubes and recognition, perceived parts availability would be my guess. Helped run one for a while (392 then a 354). I'm not in the market for one and wouldn't pay a premium for any except a 392 with adjustable rockers and the bumped valve covers. It would have to be a very complete original in good provable shape too.
Aside from that any short bell very nicely built thumper. Barn find cores it wouldn't matter.

    Chrysler Hemi-6

Chrysler Hemi 265ci 6-cylinder hemispherical combustion chambers with large intake and exhaust valves (removed) and big square ports
The 265 cu in (4.3 L) was introduced in 1971 in the VH. It used a new cylinder block with a bigger bore diameter of 3.91 in (99 mm)—the same as many of the Chrysler small-block V8s—and a new cylinder head, having slightly more hemispherical shaped combustion chambers with larger valves.

The standard version of the 265 produced 203 hp (151 kW) at 4600 rpm and 262 lb⋅ft (355 N⋅m) of torque at 2800 rpm.

The top-of-the-line performance engine in the E49 Chargers produced 302 hp (225 kW) at 5600 rpm and 320 lb⋅ft (434 N⋅m) of torque at 4400 rpm. The increased power is due mainly to a more aggressive camshaft, high-load valve springs, triple 45 mm (1.8 in) DCOE sidedraught Weber carburetors, tuned-length exhaust headers and a higher compression ratio of 10.0:1.

    Specifications (for 2bbl carbureted variant):

    • Bore x Stroke Size: 3.91 in × 3.68 in (99 mm × 93 mm)
    • Compression ratio: 9.5:1
    • Power: 151 kW (202 hp) at 4600 rpm
    • Torque: 355 N⋅m (262 lb⋅ft) at 2800 rpm
    • Intake valve head diameter: 1.96 in (49.8 mm)
    • Exhaust: 1.6 in (40.6 mm)

I doubt anyone here is actually physically looking at these cars. We’re all just having fun, daydreaming and wasting time which is easier than actually doing any real work on our cars.
I’m hoping someday to see a post from someone who actually went and bought one of these cars!

I bought a 392 hemi, 5/8" stroker, 8-71 blower, Cragar blower intake,Electronic fuel injection, roller cam, with a frankenstein magneto with a polished 747 trans for $5,000 out of Parker AZ. was in a 34 Ford coupe. They sold the coupe without the motor. I got the motor. . F438B42D-9875-416C-B88A-223DFEA1E759.jpeg with all the hardware with it.

Well, some people must be seriously looking at the vehicles posted on this thread. There have been an amazing number of the vehicles shown here that were marked as sold a few days after they were posted.

There are either a lot of coincidences happening, or maybe this thread is having some impact.

Maybe the new hot ticket on finding the ride of your dream is checking this thread regularly.

    I'd drive it...
That's a pretty sweet car. $5k seems a bit high, but it does have a nail if it runs it may be worth that...

  28. There's a very good shape big ol' bumper available on a big ol' boat with a big ol' boat motor. It's probably going to be gone soon.
