HI Guy's, Has anyone had a new 1939-40 Mercury Custom Chassis built in or around Los Angeles area , Or any other recommendations please. Thank you in advance Gentleman
I’ve never seen a 40 Merc repro chassis offered. I suppose someone could bend one up from a CAD file and a mandrel tube bender.
The floor pan may be the same, but the Merc wheelbase is 4" longer, (116") than a Ford. (112") I think its from the firewall forward, but I am not certain about that part.
What I'm thinking is, if the Merc is similar to the Ford chassis, I'd start with one of the aftermarket Ford chassis shops and have them modify their Ford design. On the other hand, as Jeff asked above; what's wrong with the original chassis?
The 39 and 40 Mercs were 4 inches longer and it was in the body. Thev 41 and up was made forward of the firewall. I had a 39 for several years and found many small differences from Fords of the same years.
There might be a chassis for sale here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1939-1940-mercury-convertible-parts.1338169/
I know of a 4 door that is being parted out and has a complete rolling chassis that might be for sale here in AZ.
