Has any one used the Speedway Aluminum support ring adapters to mount 28-35 wire wheels on modern drums or discs ? I have a nice set of 32 wire wheels, and have never used any wheel adapters its P/N 91028351 any pros and cons, PS it's a low HP roadster. so no vicious burnouts. Thanks Guys !
the early wheels are supported by a raised area on early drum. The later drums do not have this. The adaptors replace this support. Without the adapters the wheel is likely to crack. John
As John said in post 4 without them you damage the center of the wheel around the lug bolt holes. BRB I'll go take a photo to show what he said.
Model A hub showing the step and a 35 Wire showing no support inside the rather frail seats for the lug nuts.
Thanks for the info. where did you find steel adapters, I only see Speedway aluminum PN 91028352, thanks for the info. I just bought a nice set of 32 wire wheels.
Just google "wire wheel supports " Amazon has them so does Boling Brother. By the way, The Speedway ones are also Steel!
I believe he is asking about the thick aluminum stepped spacer/adapters to put wire wheels on late model drums not the thin support rings to wires on early ford or Boling Bros repop drums.
