I would venture to guess that the 327 Chevy has won more races, on the streets and back roads and
race tracks around the country than any other engine ever made. Would be interesting to know the
production numbers of all 327's that were made. The sound of a 327 with 11-1 compression and a
30-30 Duntov cam is music to this hot rodders ears.

    Fun facts.
Note production numbers for 67 Nova with L79 engine option.

So that one stored in the garage is either really rare, or it is a fake? Just like all the other 327s that came out of Vettes! Just kidding…

This one started life as a 66- 275 HP. A friend had the bare block stored in an attic for 25 years. He gave it to me, and along with some other hand me down parts, we built it a a 331" with KB pistons and a Schneider solid cam. The Edelbrock aluminum heads will need some 1/2" valve cover spacers to clear the 1.6 ratio rockers. The Corvette covers are my favorite ones, and will be at home in my B/SR. Marty, one of my 327s is going together with similar equipment, but will have a Cragar timing cover with the Hilborn pump driven from the nose of the cam. Of course it might also be based on one of the 283s collected. But then I’d have to start another thread…

Dave , I am going belt drive the fuel pump, so I can run a water pump, for the return road.

I’ve got a water pump from a 400 sprint car engine, driven by the nose of the crank. That should work… I’ve never thrown anything away, and it is starting to be handy!

It isn't pretty like the motors in this thread (I am drooling and it gives me inspiration for a winter project) but here is the 327 in my jalopy. It's out of a '67 Chevelle, and it has '71 heads on it.

It's not much to look at, but man it runs strong.

I've seen a butt load of restored 327's, call me weird but none get me worked up like an unrestored L79, this is supposedly in an original Nova station wagon

  16. Funny this thread popped up. Just started pulling the 327" out of my off topic 2WD Blazer. Engine came in a 62 Corvette I bought in 1978. It's a CE dealer installed replacement in 1977 right before original owner sold the car. Stamped CE7P2526 & SO127CFB. Flint, MI block cast 3959512 with I-30-6 date. Has #186 heads on it. In 1982 found the original engine for my Vette. Pulled this out and put it in my 1972 GMC Jimmy. Then 4 other cars over the years. Dropped in the S10 Blazer 15 years ago instead of letting engine sit under the bench. Haven't driven it now for 7 years. Gonna save the 327 & 4 speed for my "last project". (I'm 70) Don't know what yet but will be HAMB friendly. Been looking at 1954-1959 Chevy/GMC pickups. Not real shiny & purty but not a rat.
