Technical 32 front shocks

    I am tired of loose teeth after a short cruise in my 32 coupe with flatty 8. The car has stock suspension and examination of the front tube shocks someone years ago installed, are Monroe Sensi Trac AM10028BTO and googles "made to replace air leveling rear shocks". Said to be a gas shock. My buddy thinks these look exactly what Speedway sells. Aside from the terrible choice to use a "rear leveling shock," Bishop/Tardel Ford Hot Rod says to stay away from gas-charged units as they are much too stiff for a light car. Use a conventional tube shock. The tech sheet on mine show 9.75" and 14.75" extended. Anyone have a favorite?

    I had the best ride with Houdai? shocks. There is a pair for sale in the classifieds by Contintaljohn for 50 bucks.

    I have to respectfully and vigorously call Bullshit. I have chrome, gas charged, Bilstein shocks on my fender-less 34 and the ride is fantastic (I have them in the rear as well). I also run a flathead and brass/copper radiator so the noses on our cars are in same arena, weight wise. I notice no bone jarring, teeth shattering harshness to my ride. I liked them so much I put them on my 41 PU as well. But beware, not all gas shocks are created equal. Too light for gas shocks? Pshaw!

    How did you grease your leaves.
    How is the ride with out shocks.
    Not for usage, only for testing.

    I know some run
    32 on all four

    On one original Chassis , original
    Friction shocks
    Then have Gas , & none
    & coil overs

    My next step I will indeed remove the shocks for testing. I have not lubed the front spring so that will be included. I can not stand on the bumper and get much movement. Thanks for the ideas.

    Done many 100's of 28-34 chassis thru the years. My go to shocks are still the hydraulic tube shocks sold by Pete & Jake' s. No gas no nothing just a hydraulic shock with the right dampening for a light hot rod. I tried quite a few sets of gas hot rod shocks and found them to stiff. My latest experiment has been on Howard, my daily driver deuce pickup with Ride Tech Shocks. I've now got about 12,000 miles on the R T shocks which replaced P&J's. Is there a $1000 difference between R T shocks & P&J's? Not in my opinion. I've also sold a couple pairs of the Ford style lever shocks made in England and they appear to work good. P&J over R T. You may need to buy new shocks a little more often?

    How are yours positioned for travel? They could be bottoming out too soon.

    I was donated a pair for my 32 front a year ago . I think they had a QA2 sticker on them . I’d love to find a pair for the rear . Any help on where or who sells this brand ? Thanks and be safe

    At rest, the exposed shaft is 2 3/8". The installed height of the shock is 11.75". These look exactly like the gas shock and mounts speedway sells for common ford axle style so the specs are about correct for travel. Collasped 9.75 and extended @ 14.75.

    I've tried many shocks on my avatar roadster and go with what Krylon said ... Pete& Jakes.
    Both their covered and uncovered shocks have the same dampening.

    The front P&J 1084 uncovered. What is the front covered P&J please. 1086 says for rear. Thanks

    Pete and Jakes front and rear on my A roadster. They make 2 lengths that will fit most uses.
    Ride quality also depends on spring flex. Spring needs to match weight and not stick.

    1 lowr shock bracket loose. Both shocks are not "smooth" when collasped. Stick in the collasped position and eventially extend. (Gas must still be there) Will be getting new P&J ordered after a short drive.

    P&J front covered shock # is 1086, same as rear covered. Same dampening front and rear. As "ydopen" says above the spring rate has a lot to do with the ride quality.

    Does P & J make the 1086 in black vs the crome.
