rebuilding after the crash

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by racer-x, Sep 19, 2015.

  1. Thanks will do. We are and picked up food for the weekend. You are welcome to whatever we have to eat and drink.
All set up. Ready to go.
After the drivers meeting they will have fire safety training. The proper use of a fire extinguisher will be discussed. After last week's mess at the IHRA race they felt this should be touched on. PXL_20250718_014925745.jpg

Here are a few pics I took last night while you guys were shopping

  3. After Q1 and Q2 on Friday, Brian is sitting in the 17th spot, one spot out of the B Field.

  4. After Q3 on Saturday morning, Brian moved up to the 15th spot on the final qualifying order. That puts him in the 7th spot for the B Field.

  5. Brian is paired with Mark Hunter in the "Jailbreak" Fuel Altered for the first round today. The B Field is limited to a 4.28 Index for this event. If a competitor runs quicker than that time, the other car wins. In the final round, the class Index is removed, and it's a free for all.

  6. Brian won first round!!!

    4.77 @ 146.48 BEATS 4.69 @ 124.62

  7. Brian was on hand for the driver's autograph session;

  8. Brian is going to the FINALS!!!

Brian beat Keith Jackson in the High Heaven Big Show funny car, 4.58 over 4.82!!!

  9. I'll let Brian take over from here...

  11. Exciting! Congratulations. Classy move standing behind the car and letting the crew take the limelight in the photos.

  14. Wow what a weekend. To go from a crashed car to a event winner in two weeks is a Cinderella story.
The car was set up like normal. Q-1 was a disaster. The car was undrivable pulling hard to the right. A four bar change of a flat and a half to shorten the right upper bar was the call.
Q-2 the car blew the tires off. New tires usually take a few passes to come around. The good thing was after the car regained traction it went straight. But fuel altereds do crazy things. The guy in the other lane suddenly was in my lane. It's a dark track and now I have this car hitting cones and things are flying in the air. I can't make out what all was flying around so I lifted.
Now it's Saturday morning we are qualified in the seventeen spot of a sixteen car show. It's do or die on Q-3. Not only could we miss out on qualifying money and points it could keep us out of the top ten in points. The top ten get checks at the end of the year. There's a lot riding on this. The car layed down a strong pass in the 95 degree heat. We moved from 17 to 11. We were in the show.
First round pairing was the champion for the last two years. He got out on me. I caught up and passed him at half track. My car got loose and he passed me. I got my car under control and beat him to the stripe. Exiting side by side racing.
For the next round I raced a big show funny car. Again they got out on me but the big hemi reeled it in for the win. A nice clean pass.
For the finals things were ugly. The fuel shut off broke. I only had a small amount of fuel flowing. It died three times. It jumped out of gear on the burnout. I staged the car and the guy went big time red. With no power I idled down the track. The funny thing is in the staging lanes the other team was teasing me about not red lighting.
I made a huge move in the standings. I took home four grand and the car is in one piece.
Next stop is the fuel altered nationals at Eddyville Iowa the place I just crashed. It's never a dull moment. PXL_20250720_021846247.jpg

    Wow, how exciting!
You did a fantastic job and yourselves deserve a reward.
I enjoyed following your build-up and your experiences, and now also your victory.
    I'll stay tuned.
    Regards Harald

  16. This win moved Brian from the 12th spot in points, up to the 10th spot with one more points race left on the schedule.

    Congrats man

Any idea yet on what happened with the fuel shutoff? Scares the hell out of me thinking of one jammed open.

    cheers,

Brian, that is so awesome that you won won a Nitro chaos race! That is an amazing accomplishment. I know you've worked so hard for it for so long, you really deserve it. The fact that the other guy red lit in the final round makes it no less of a win. Half the battle is showing up, the other half of the battle is making fewer mistakes than the other guy, and the last half for the battle is being the fastest. The car was giving you fits, but you played it cool and didn't make any mistakes and it earned you the final round victory!

I don't just salute Brian for his efforts at the track, but especially all the hard work and dedication (and expense) in the repairs, upgrades and day to day maintainence to keep the car operable.
