    Hello,

My brother and our teenage friends made the long 2 hour drive to the largest West Coast drag race at the time. It was pictured as the East vs West drag race with the big names in attendance. No, not at Lion's Dragstrip, but a dragstrip located within a large open land area raceway that included a road racing course. The dragstrip was part of the long straightaway of the road course.

It was the first appearance of the “other state location” top racers heading West to race. At the time there were no touring racers. They mostly stayed at their favorite dragstrip or several local ones in their areas. So, they all headed to So Cal to race.

From Texas… the top race car from that area was in attendance. Bobby Langley... we had only seen photos in the local Drag News weekly papers. Now, he was sitting in the pits for a close up view.

So, for us that car plus the top draw for So Cal racers, Don Garlits, was there ready to race the top West Coast racers.

But, we liked all racers and one of our favorites from the Modified Roadster Class that stood out from all the way across the pits was the Higgenbotham Farms Modified Roadster. (top roadster photo)We knew of this roadster from the local weekly Drag News publications. But, we had never seen it in person, despite being from the Westcoast.

Upon walking up to the roadster in the pits, it was amazing that the whole body was hinged on the rear and could be lifted up in front to be able to work on the motor/transmission.

No more crawling over the top to get into the seat.
Direct access for the center seating arrangement. Step in, buckle up and one is ready to go. YRMV

  23. I bet those fenders were thrown away a long time ago. The car looks good with them. If I owned the car, and it's one of my favorite Track nose cars, I'd put the fenders on it. There was a clone/replica built of this car, I think it was back east somewhere. It was probably built over 20 years ago, had a small block chevy, but on the outside it was pretty close. I wonder where it is now?

Back in the 60’s they use to weld a pair of Ford Falcon front fenders cut off. Before wheel opening to build a track nose.

  25. Interesting. I've always thought that a pair of 40's era rear fenders could be made into a track nose.

Southern Indiana, if I remember correctly. Saw it at “Indy” Goodguys IRP.

  27. So you saw the clone this year? That's cool that it's still around.

There’s so many great Model As on here!
I’ve spent any free time I’ve had for the last week going through these pages and I’ve seen all the cars that ever inspired me to build mine, except the one that I think I love the most so I’ll post it.
Pickin a favorite A is like pickin a favorite song, damn tuff to do.
