Well now, talking work or shop clothes has me wanting to share this.
Blue jeans any brand will rip stain and show wear faster than,,,
Black Dickees original fit. I've been known to go to social events in pants that were on the shop floor or driveway. Gotten greasy or whatever. they still look good hang well and kept the crease.
I still use some going 'out' after 17 years. My secret though is the laundry.
( this does not detract from gearhead life just a result of monitoring cause and effect )
Never do my pants go into the dryer.
Dry happens in a day just set the creases and drape them any place that air moves.
Jeans also benefit lookswise from this practice.
So gearhead.... this info I received from a appliance mechanic.
75% of lint in the trap occurs after the stuff is already dry.
Now don't try to sell you wife. She doesn't care

When I was younger I always had someone else's car under the tree behind my house, complete with a come-along hanging from a branch that was either roped or chained to the limb above it for extra support incase I needed to pull the Trans along with the engine.

So I'm not sure if that makes me a gearhead or a shade tree mechanic. But either way I always had grease under my nails and a wife always complaining that I was getting my good clothes greasy.....

I grabbed a free washer from one of my clients and installed in the garage for my shop clothes, rags, etc.

Ask them how many cars they have. If they instantly say 2!!! Or 3!!! Then they are NOT a car guy. If they have to stop and think, then ask, do you mean ones that run? Do you mean just ones with titles? Then they are a true car guy

If your wife constantly complains that she has to wash the bar of soap before she can use it, you could be a gearhead.

In that vein, if your wife asks what that funny smell is coming out of the oven, you might be a gear head.

It appears that by some of the responses that I may no longer be a gear head. :D

Therefore, I must now just be an old guy, that at one time may "have been" a gear head. Now I am just an old guy (maybe not old by the HAMB standards, but I'm claiming it anyway) that used to be into cars. As much as I may hate to admit it, that IS probably true. :p

So I wear my new identity as "the old guy with an old car and an old truck, that may have been a gear head at one time," proudly!

I've somehow managed to live long enough to reach that level, so I have no shame. Between me and you, I may still pretend to be a gear head. :D

First there would have to be a universally accepted definition of a gear head, which there isn't . Next thered have to be people making impartial judgements , which they don't . Conclusion is it's all a mute point ...

I had a 8" Granada rear end in my storage building and decided I needed to build something around it. That should make me a geaarhead.

Buy another vehicle because you have parts for it already.

I've built a couple around wheels. Admittedly I've bought wheels knowing I was going to get and build the car or truck in my mind at some point, but I can see them in my head and know that I'll do it eventually.....there's still some waiting. But I've never sold a set....

If they know the firing order of their car and a long shot would be if they know the bolt pattern !

  16. I would take all the greasy rags, clothing, towels from the race car shop to the laundromat as needed.

People would walk by and comment on the BLACK suds during the wash cycle, always set on hot.
