The Friday Art Show

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by Jeff Norwell, May 23, 2025.

  1. I won’t speak for @Jeff Norwell but I’m pretty sure that was tongue in cheek, some of you are so busy trying to find something to complain about…

I liked the old FRIDAY ART SHOW as it was! But, I'm a relative newbie here and it is what it isn't IMO!

  3. This thread still gets a sticky from Friday-Monday so it is treated the same way as always. It’s found a new home in a different location and, better yet, is no longer archived. It remains open, always, just the sticky is removed on Mondays.
The Mods opened up the ability to share additional art work that may deviate from the HAMB’s traditional rules. This is great for artists who are automotive enthusiasts and hobbyists with a broader range of artwork itching to be shared. The thread, therefore, it has been relocated to the OT message board.

So, bottom line, same “Friday Art Show”, new town…

(Don’t let the copyright fool you, I drew this in 1990, at Cal Arts)

  8. If we give in to being old and hating change, we would all still be driving cars from the thirties with flatheads…

    Hey @57 Corvette ~ Bob
Great to see that you are still around.

If you go to page 2 of this thread, you will see what the mods posted, that indeed does explain why the (FAS) is now in this category.

So I am hopeful that you will come back to the (FAS) and continue to contribute your great artistic creations!
    Thanks from Dennis.

One of the things that tells the story of a hot rod is the stance. "Bigs and littles," as some folks see the builds. But, as practical or impractical as those different tires make the hot rod stance, they are a big part of custom hot rod builds. Dave Bell was the artist with skills showing all sorts of "bigs and littles."

    Hello,

32 Ford Phaetons are as rare as is the 32 Sedan Delivery. But, the Phaeton has more styling points and functionality. One could go out with the family and the back seat members have their own front opening doors. Easy access and if there is a toddler and safety seat, the front opening door works better for the tired “old back.” But, overall, there is more room for everyone. The slightly chopped top is not the ordinary foldable convertible top that has to make a giant “blob” on the back of the car when opened.

This top is called a “California Top.” The idea was created to perfection in Goleta, CA by an unusual character named “Big Hearted Ken.” (the California Top story is on the HAMB) This drawing takes it one step further with a design that looks exactly like the convertible top, normally seen on Phaetons. But, it pops off with a few bolts and can easily be lifted and installed by husband/wife combo. Great Idea… Ken Perry …

The roll up windows make a perfect seal and so the sound inside is quieter than normal.

The rake stance allows the driver and passenger to get a better view of the road ahead. Of course, the centrifugal supercharged SBC motor just purrs along the So Cal coastline for those deep blue sea views…YRMV

    Thanks

  15. @57 Corvette ~ Bob yep. Jeff even posted some examples of his own so follow Dennis’ suggestion, browse the pages., enjoy the art.

things are getting back in order here but all my supplies are still packed away. Hope to have new artwork to share soon. Here are a couple OT samples I’ve never been able to share.

here's what the Art Show was from 1996-1998. I have 793 Art Show pics I collected on a CD back in the olden days. (not my pics)
don't keep photos on CD, they shrink and get pixelated and eventually disappear. it does take a long time.
