I built me a 38 Chevy Gasser & was planning on running with the Southeast Gassers Texas Style. I got in touch with Ronnie Santhuff that started that group to see when he was going have some gasser races again & he didn't really know. It has been 3 years since that group has raced that I know of. I currently have ran with the Dirty South Gassers at the Funny Car Kaos at the Texas Motorplex back in May. I live in Axtell (Central Texas) & a lot of the Dirty south events are too far for me to travel to attend. Myself and few others in my area all have gassers ready to race & have the same issue of nowhere local to race. So I took it on my own to try & promote some local to me gasser racing. I contaced Little River Dragway in Temple Texas & they were all for it. We had our first gasser race on July 26th 2025 & it was a hit!!! Only had 13 gassers show up but we all got to run our cars & have a good time. I think we put on a hell of a show!!! I've had a lot more gassers contact me to run the next event. Our next event will be August 30,2025. I'm putting this information everywhere I can find to get this gasser racing going. Track gates open at 12 noon & time trials start at 6pm. $20 entry for driver which includes tech card. Spectators $15 I'll post some pics of the gassers that were in attendance soon.

Looks awesome, good on you for making it happen. I’d love to join in, but have the same issue you did. Way too far.☹️

This was our first race & it was at a 1/8 mile track. The track used to be 1/4 mile but due to cars becoming faster through the years & no room to expand the shutdown it went to the 1/8th. Most gassers now days are geared real low so they can use all 4 gears in the 1/8th. I ran with the Dirty South Gassers at the Funny car Koas at the Texas Motorplex & it was 1/8 mile but the track is a 1/4 mile with plenty shutdown.. I can run the 1/4, I ain't skeered.

Eighth mile drag racing is like chewing a steak and not swallowing it!

  18. Exactly, you get all the action and flavor in the 1/8, the second 1/8 you're just along for the ride, nothing happening just like when you swallow your steak. You don't get nothing more out of it once it's on the way down.
Always find it funny with these arguments, much like the 4 speed vs auto, I bet there's more 1/8 mile racing vs 1/4 across the country.

Back in the sixties and early seventies I ran Gas classes on both the eighth and quarter mile strips. I used much stiffer gears for the eighth. I have an 8 & 3/4 rear and they were simple to swap. I enjoyed racing on both.

Nice you got it up and racing again. My car is a few years off to being done. Maybe if it is still going on I may make the trip to join in the fun.

Good stuff ! Little River is a great place.

Day of the Drags, Texas Nostalgia Nats, Texas Thaw, Showdown at the River. Seems like all of our "Nostalgia" drag races have gone away the last few years.
Good to see someone step up & organize a new event.
I'll be there to spectate & support whenever I can !
