Just found this local, $750. Definitely doesn’t look like a normal quick change to me. Any info would help tons. Looking for a rear for the 28 roadster
Not sure......the bottom lip of the cover flange is down at the bottom of the jugs, so looks like you'd still lose a good amount of lube during changes??....but definitely reservoirs for extra capacity.
Just some extra capacity to help keep the oil cool under hard conditions. If it's in good shape that's a good deal (as long as it has a diff, not a spool).
Almost identical to this one: If it has 5x5 bolt pattern it’s an older late model stock car rear axle, like this one was. This one has a locker, some say not ideal for the street, however it’s still a differential, not a spool. And yes it’s a good buy at that price if not damaged inside. Easy enough to check out. Ask the seller if he has a wheel for it, and bolt it on the right side. Stand it up on that end, and pull the thru-bolts out and take a look inside, if the seller will allow it.
Just went back and looked at the picture more closely and it already has a wheel on the right side, and is standing up on it. Those bolts are 7/16 and easily removed.

Yes, those bolts go through the center and will allow you to take it apart. The housing is sealed with o-rings, so you can put it back together without any problems. Look for cracks in the center section casting around the nose of the pinion.
