Just wondering if anyone would happen to have an old drag racing rule book from the late '60s to very early 70s? I'm curious how smaller engine dragsters would have been classified back in the day. Mostly interested in unblown gas engine classes.

    Thanks

I took a relatively quick look through the dragster section that I was particularly interested in. I didn't find anything that really addressed whether car weight, to determine the class by pounds per cubic inch displacement, included driver or was that just the car itself?

    Any insight squirrel?

Thanks. I appreciate the link to the '64 rule book!

    Hello,

I have a set of rule books going back a few years in the 60s. So here are the ones you might be interested in for 1969. Since there are almost different amount of pages per year, the ones in the mid 60s had at least 26 pages and so, I gathered the information only pertinent to your request.

The 1969 rule book had 34 pages and so here are what you are looking for, as far as NHRA is concerned.

Also, here is one small set of rules for competition eliminator that included dragsters:

Thanks. The way I read it my 305 Chevy powered carbureted gas dragster that weighs 1276 lb would be in the C/D class.

One thing I find interesting is that a carbureted gas dragster running a 392 Hemi at 2.00 to 2.99 Lbs/Cubic Inch could have potentially (legally) weighed under 800 lb. I'd see that as being pretty tough to accomplish, if not impossible.
