Makes me think of @travisfromkansas 48 cars in 48 states trip!

I’ve also been thinking about a small trailer behind my 46 but more like the ones seen in the book “the birth of hot rodding”

It’s way cool. From the days of use what you’ve got, adapt the plan from Popular Mechanics. Done.

In my youth, we used to go tent camping, along the Frejolis Creek, at Bandelier National Monument in the Jemez Mountains... the outing would be coordinated to include the Taylor family and their homebuilt, teardrop camper....
It was the mobile kitchen for the motley crew.... you triggered the ingrained memory of the smell of bacon and eggs intermingled Coleman stove fuel ...... little did we know at the time, we were glamping
I know why it is on your list.....

Didn’t the boss Ryan go through a camper phase a few years ago eventually buying a shiny aluminum model? There were loads of cool vintage camper photos in that thread. I think a teardrop build-your-own trailer shop/school would be a going concern if someone had the space and $$ to get it off the ground. There is also a pretty good message board for teardrop trailers, though I haven’t looked at it in quite a while.

  6. I agree . . . here's our 1947 KIT Sportsman teardrop trailer:

Love them teardrop trailers and how it just fits together so well. I’m going to have to build me one. I have seen plans back in the day in popular science.

Thanks. If these aren't '50 Pontiac, then could you please let us know what they are? Screenshot 2025-08-03 at 4.29.27 PM.png

IMG_1085.jpeg That’s the trailer set up that’s been on my mind. Not really a camper though…. Unless you add a chunk of plywood and use it for a tent platform after you roll the car off.

  11. Although very similar to 1950 Pontiac lenses, the lens on this camper's taillights seem to be "flatter" than an actual 1950 Pontiac lens (which are much "rounder"):

Perhaps they are a pair of the "accessory" taillights that were readily available in the 1950s-1960s.

A teardrop camper is certainly on our list, once we have some undercover storage we'll be looking out for one.
@Tim that trailer is perfect! There's been talk of a single motorcycle trailer built on an Early Ford front axle & wishbone with just a channel for a while now

At one time you could buy plans to build your own but I haven’t seen anything in years.

This is my good buddy Normspeed's combo. We found both his '53 Plymouth Momad and the original '47 teardrop at the LARS swap back in the '90s.

it can be a really good platform for a one axle trailer...but you have to check the wheel bearings at time of purchase which can become a point of negotiation or a deal breaker....

I posted Norm's rig, above, and within minutes I got a Pinterest thing on my phone with a page of teardrop pictures including this.
