Featured Customs BEST 32 FORD OF ALL TIME, LET's SEE EM

I am starting this thread as a result of our buddy's @34Larry post earlier on the Lil Coffin. Read his story here and then the challenge issued by @Moriarity when he say this is the best 32 Ford of all time. That statement was clarified in a subsequent post to mean best "custom" 32 Ford of all time.
The statement deserves a hearing from the peers on the HAMB. I am staring a separate thread so as not to distract form Larry's intention.

Have an opinion? Have some worthy notables? Have one better? Have at it. Post your pics and supporting evidence. We are looking for something better than this, The Lil Coffin.

   Wichita Kansas, 1958. Just married and I moved off of McConnell AFB (Air Force Base)
   All of 20 years old I was. Wed in Seattle we found and rented a duplex, set up our love nest and begin our life together just off base.
   She was all of 18 y.o., from Washington state, never been on her own, so after a full day at the base I beat feet home in a hurry that first day back at my duties. As I crossed a double set of train tracks at twice the speed of sound in my lowered moor door '51 Chevy 6 banger fast back, I noticed a long four doored custom car shop and a large pot holed water-soaked parking lot on my right. AND a close to stock Ford sedan (looked like a '32 parked at the curb.
   Of course, this turned out to be Starbird's shop, and the '32 was, yes you, guessed it, the in-progress LIL COFFIN. We lived in that place for quite a while, in doing so I witnessed many changes to the L. C., often times just parked on the street at the curb.
   You can see those changes yourself on the KUSTOMRAMA WEBSITE and I sure hope you do, no body did it better than D. S. And if asked , No I never met him or had the gonads to venture into the shop, and oh how i regret that . My Bias and strong admiration for this amazing study in automotive artsmenship is unsurpassed in my humble opinion, even by its most closes competition: IMO The ALA KART.
   
   When asked about Starbird. I have not ever been that excited about any of his creations. And when he was as quoted he said HE built the LIL COFFIN!!! well, if ya can't say anything nice about someone, best to say nothing at all, My apologies to the may bubble top fans and SB MAMB fans.

   I am not proud to admit that I never really paid much attention to Starbird and his creations until I heard that quote from American Graffiti when Toad is raving about Steve's Chevy " it's better than Daryl Starbird's superfleck moonbird."
   I can't say I am a fan of all his creations, same goes for Roth but I do appreciate a few. Too bad you didn't take the chance and happen into his shop one day. Cool story anyway sans the personal encounter. Keep 'em coming.

   In reality the Lil Coffin was built by Dave Stuckey (first version 100%). Granted some of it was done at Starbirds shop because at the Time Stuckey worked for Darryl... With that said, In my humble opinion the Lil Coffin is the greatest 32 Ford of all time.....

   @34Larry I hope you don't mind a little "related" distraction. Point taken @Moriarity , just don't go back and amend your post to say, "best custom 32 Ford of all time". It would ruin all the fun we about to have. Like your advisory once said "the game is afoot"

Well the Orange Crate was amazing for what it was indented for and I loved seeing it run at Pacific Race ways AND it was much show as it was go, (I guess it is still hanging out somewhere in Tacoma??)

I was never into customs, but when I saw the previous thread/ comments by @Moriarity , all I could think of is that maybe he just doesn’t like ‘32 fords.
I don’t believe you can even consider that to be a ‘32 as it is so far from the original body styling that it is not recognisable as a deuce.
There aren’t even any decent untouched original ‘32 parts left on it to use it as a parts car.

Hopefully the original grille has ended up on a Model A somewhere !

With my apology's to The Orange Crate, which I love and I first saw at the Lions Car Show at the Lane County in the early '60's.

I submit The Little Deuce Coupe. Lil Coffin didn't have a song about it that everyone around the world sang along with.

 

I feel like we need Michael Buffer to introduce this thread.

 

And I have to say…the orange crate is pretty high on the list for me. But I lean more towards hot rod/race car stuff, I’m not a huge custom guy.

I still think 3w Larry car is perfect in every way . To modify one like the coffin car is very cool but more art and appreciation of skills of the builder ,who the builder was and show car circuit history.

 

1932 Fords make some of the best Hot Rods but they don't make great customs, likewise 1950 Mercurys make some of the best Customs but to turn a '50 Merc into a hot rod should be considered a abomination, this is just my opinion,

I can appreciate the cars that have been built by notable builders of yesterday, but they don't do it for me.

As far as my personal favorite '32, It has to be the Bob McGees roadster. HRP

Bob Bauder’s sedan.

 

I'd love to see a 50 Merc, black with flames, mild shave, mild chop, louvered hood, Halibrands or 5 spokes, 15 X 10's in the back, proper HOT ROD stance, black tuck & roll, tach on the dash, 5-speed, and a big block Chevrolet capable of low 12's on street tires.
I may be the only one.

 

I just read the Bauder sedan was recently purchased and is getting a little tidy up. Soon to be seen again.

If it’s judged by the amount of ink it’s got, Doane Spencer’s 32 has to be in the running.

 

This has always been the absolute best 32 in my eyes since I saw the 63 Cover of Hot Rod. That blow small block chevy, the flames, the moon tank and all the panel striping has been just imprinted on my mind when I think of a 32 Ford.

 

No such thing as the best anything. Only opinions.
Hot rods are attitude. So my best are the ones that were used as intended

I was wondering when that would get the tap. I've seen it, it is finite. A true hot rod.

Killer! Love the flames.

Not just press but you hear the name associated with build style and era. That usually means it left it's mark on the hobby and automotive history. Nice choice.
@Moriarity , thoughts? Changing your mind? Hungry for more?

We are looking for top billing of the car a lot of our hobbyists say is the epitome of the genre, not an easy task by any means. perhaps it is appropriate this comes on the heals of Deuce Days in BC this year.
