  4. This is so stupid. Why don't you rename this tread, "What's your favorite 32?" It's ALL about opinion. This is just like the "Best Mercury Kustom?", thread. Turns into a bunch of arguing. Somebody says, American Graffiti Coupe, then he gets shit on.

Don’t take it so seriously, it’s always about opinion unless you’re racing then the time slips etc speak for themselves.

“Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes shine to the stars. Enthusiasm is the sparkle in your eyes, the swing in your gait. The grip of your hand, the irresistible surge of will and energy to execute your ideas.” Believe this was a quote from Henry Ford. In the end, I like them all.

It may very well be stupid Bob, but Moriarity threw down the gauntlet, I thought it would be fun to prove to a collector, A legitimate custom car collector, that there is a better custom 32 out there. I'm sorry of it seems stupid to you, it is the internet after all. 99% of the content is stupid. In comparison this is Mensa shit!

You know what..........I think you are the one who got this right.

Hot Rodding had its roots in people building these old 32s so they could race them, and driving them on the street was secondary because all your money had to go into race parts. If you think about the whole outgrowth of our hobby from its beginning, its rooted in racing. So to have any chance of being the best 32 ever, it should be a car that actually has a racing heritage and then evolved from there.

    So heres one to consider.

A still from Ironman with Tony working on the car. Real hot rods need tinkering, even if you are a superhero.

All fantastic cars, admire each and every one, no particular fav. ( except lil coffin of course) let's just move on.

    Edit:
In fact as one might well guess the '34 is my all time favorite, fenered or hi-boy (prefeered).

It was your post about the Coffin, Larry that got Mark and I into this debate. I started this thread so we didn't clutter up yours. There has been some great rides posted here, hot rod, custom and show cars. @Moriarity is holding firm on the Lil Coffin as his choice for best 32. The decision is not so easy for me.

Well, let me add this as long as I'm here in support of my opinion of the Coffin. I'll do so by asking if you have stood alongside this 32 Ford Sedan.? I have, /I did. Both as it was in creation, along a curb at starbirds shop and completed in Starbird's show, pictured somewhere here within this thread, only blocks from my humble appt. in Wichita in 1959. As a punk hotrodder/airmen I was awh struck and to be honest, still am when reliving those moments in my young life, I can't help it.:rolleyes:

  20. First I want to say I love hot rods & customs but I have always been of the opinion that cars that are/have been traditionally built as hot rods or customs should remain so and
IMHO 1932 Fords should be built as hot rods or left original, but not customs, likewise a '50 Merc should never be turned into a hot rod.

A local guy has a pro street '50 Merc, the car has a BBC and a blower sticking through the hood, he ruined a good car as far as I am concerned, I want to toss my cookies!

  22. This is going to come across as blasphemy to many of you but cars in this thread have never excited me, the famous coupe seems to be confused, part of it looks custom but it has the heart of a hot rod with it's blown hot rod engine.

The wild modified sedans, chopped, channeled, sectioned, A and B pillars missing and wild grilles just look like old show cars, they certainly don't look like customs, maybe I'm just bias and I guess I have a narrow opinion of what a hot rod & custom should look like, again this is just my opinion. My view is that certain cars often fit in one category much better than they fit in the other category......and some other cars fit in both categories equally well. As has been said, the 49-51 Mercury seems to be one of the best starting points for a custom.......hence their popularity as a custom and generally lacking popularity as a hot rod. That doesn't mean (IMHO) that someone with a gift for creating things couldn't somehow create one that is brilliantly done........but so far, I can't think of any.

With the 32 Ford coupes (29-34 actually), I think they look best when built as a " racer" of some type. It can be a high performance street machine, or something with drag or land speed roots. It can even be basically stock from the outside and have everything hidden.

Without meaning to insult anyone, the full customs seem to destroy the essence that is the 32 (or 29-34) Ford. The body lines get destroyed . Either the basic styling gets lost in the translation so you don't rally know what it is, or they hang a bunch of useless paraphernalia on it and becomes the proverbial "lipstick on a pig". The alexander brothers coupe that the Beachboys had on their album is an example.....again, IMHO. I realize it was radical during its heyday, but it sure didn't create a fad. Most everyone who likes these cars tries to accentuate the original lines, not put funky looking chrome fins and quad headlights on them.

Now, I respect that others have different tastes and different views on this......but the vast majority of people who have owned or built cars from 29-34 have NOT built them as customs. Probably less than 1%. So I have to feel that most people would not pick a radical custom 32 (29-34) vehicle as the best ever .

Although 29-34 models have been chopped and channeled and lowered, the original basis for this was racing and not customization. Customs merely adapted the look for esthetics and often the customs became heavier (lead sleds).

So any car that has a chance at being selected as the "best ever" is probably going to come from a more Hot Rod version than a custom version. MHO ................ Ekimneirbo
