And isn't this the exact reason we have threads like this? I don't get the whole "custom show car" thing. BUT, I love over the top show cars. Chrome and polish, paint and perfection. I can't get my fill. Mark's collection (cars not plug wires) is outrageous! Nothing like I would buy in a million years but I long to go see them in person. I don't want us all to like the same things, the same cars, the same chicks, the same music or the same elected officials. I want diversity, I crave it! I want to see the great masters in one hall and the modernists in another. I like Van Gogh and Rodin but you can keep Dali and Warhol. Cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy who wants to sit in a greasy spoon and think, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol. I want to eat bacon, butter and buckets of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in a non-smoking section. I wanna run through the streets naked with green Jello all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to. Okay, pal? I've seen the future, you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sittin' around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake singing "I'm an Oscar-Meyer Wiener!

o_Oo_Oo_Oo_OHaving lived the build experience from a distance I can more than assure you Dan that this extraordinary custom would have never been known outside Wichita, or achieved the accolades it has chevied through history if it remained in the static state pictured here.

  11. I don’t know how or why that is relevant but I won’t be roped into a pointless argument by you, as you have already done in this thread with others .

I agree Billy. I'm not saying that I don't appreciate seeing good customs..........I do appreciate them when I see them. I just don't think that all customs built by name builders should automatically get
rave reviews. To me its more about proportions than just making extreme alterations that don't really accomplish anything...........BUT.......its hard to explain it.

    Take the Kookie Kar
    Kookie 1.jpg

In its own way, it has proportions that complement each other.....yet it was kind of extreme at its inception. Things just seem to be well placed and it creates an overall "look". It also created a Fad and had legions of similar cars built to resemble it. Is it just a Hot Rod or is it also a Custom. I consider it a well done version of both.

How about a Track T ? Hot Rod or Custom or Both? Watch the video below and notice how things don't appear to be added without much purpose or just to create a "wow" factor. Its refined and tastefully done......and both appear to be very driveable.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=tra...ate=ive&vld=cid:eea7de7b,vid:g4CpaEhm52Y,st:0

Again, there have been quite a few of these cars built as well. I saw one at the SRN a few years ago and it still sticks in my mind because it was so well done. Guy was driving it around the parking lot. Now, I also looked at all the top name builder cars on display in the building.........and I can't remember even one of them. I took some pictures of it, but must have lost them when my old computer took a dump.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I tend to appreciate/like cars where things built into or on the car seem to have a purpose and compliment the styling, maybe even creates a new look or fad. I tend not to have much interest in cars that have lots of work done just to create a "wow" and only get driven in a movie . But thats my taste, and I think when it comes to the 32 that this thread is about, 99% of us tend to think its not a good basis for a radical custom 99% of the time. A thought just occured to me (don't laugh), every year I attend the SRN and there are maybe 8000-10,000 cars there. There are probably 500 1932 Fords (a guess) there. I can't recall ever seeing one that was primarily a custom, although there may have been one here or there. That tells me what most people think about when they imagine a 32 Ford.

So while I'm not into Custom 32 Fords, you just never know when some talented guy like Grabowski may find a way to make it look good. Heres some nice Hot Rods for those of you who like that kind of thing.........:D

  14. We seem compelled to explain why we like a certain style/thing....when in reality it is irrelevant, no explanation is necessary.
Trying to convince another why their style/thing is wrong shouldn't change their opinion.
    Be true to thyself...own it.
"Best 32 Ford"...can't narrow it down, too many great examples.

I agree with this post - I didn't feel the need to explain why I selected the Doane Spencer roadster.

Picking your GOAT '32 is too subjective for that

Yes, but I mentioned above that I felt 29-34 cars fit my narrative, and I felt that Bill Burnham personified the idea that a car built with any owners own blood, sweat , and burns is the best.............not just ones that have show quality stuff and seldom/never get driven. It does have a 32 Grille.

    Cool
Your narrative, but the thread title says best 32, not sure who captioned the photo of Burnhams' car but it needed to be clarified, some people don't know there's a difference.

Teenage Me: "Those fenders would have to go and 3 1/2 inches would need to come off the top. But me now as a Father of Grown Children. "This Car is Perfect! I would drive this car till the tires wore so thin that they popped, Then put on a new set and keep going.
