Im about 99% sure it’s bamboo beige. It’s a very specific color… sort of like guards red. You know it the instant you see it. And I’ve seen the car in person.

I could absolutely be wrong, but I don’t think I am.

  2. Only Ryan can post a 928 Porsche on the HAMB and not get blasted for it. I'd love me a 928. Porsche has had some nice cream colors through the years. But like Moriarity said, it's very hard to pick a color off a computer screen. Another thing to think about, a lot of paint shops don't have the old codes, and can't make the color.

    Looks great

We had a shop full of Porsches, a bamboo beige one showed up. A deer peeled the roof skin off. That color stuck out in a sea of red or silver cars.

loved that color ever since I fixed that one.

  4. Paint toners change. Those old colors were either lacquer or enamel
Still not impossible to get it mixed.

these two are absolutely beautiful, and the colour looks a lot like the antique white that I painted my dash, (except shinier and more professionally executed).

My 55 Nomad is Glacier blue over Shoreline beige which favors more cream than the name implies yet without the usual yellow cast, more commonly seen on so called red & white 55's & not to be confused with India Ivory examples.

It must be the way the light falls on some colours otherwise some of you fellas are drinking butter not cream. I mean you can name a colour what ever you want, but yellow butter ain’t cream. Ok if we leave a 44 gallon barrel of our new calved cows milk in our parlour a day or so to sit it does go a little more hint of yellowish with the colostrum coming on to the top but never strong butter yellow The top of our 37 coupe is VW harvest moon beige, but the the lighting plays with it here. 100% it's the lighting in which a pic is taken......making it a crap shoot in picking a color strictly from photos. This Cord Beverly starts off yellowish and then turns to cream as they move around the car.

  13. I had this in the 1980s. The colour was Country Cream.

    The photo was taken 1985.

Pics on computer and phone screens is the second worst possible way to identify a color. You would be lucky to get a screen to show anything like the real thing. The only way that is worse is to ask a blind person.

@twenty8 you seem to be an expert on color and paint.
The importance of this thread is to identify these colors by name and possibly year not the actual color.

You said you want to get a color like the shoebox in your first pic, but have no idea of the name or code of it. What I am saying is that screens will alter colors quite a bit. All of us are looking at the pic, but I would bet that we are all seeing a slightly different shade and tone. It is not possible for all devices to be color calibrated exactly the same. All of our (collective) eyes will also be viewing the color differently. Yes, I have some experience in digital design work and printing on glass and other media, but I am far from an "expert". We do our design work on our computers, and the end result of the actual printed colors can vary a lot from what the file shows on the monitor/screen.

All the advice being given is great, and suggestions of colors that appear close will be helpful to you. It is just a good idea to view actual auto paint color cards before deciding you have a match.:)

EDIT: Any color that looks similar on your device screen to the color in the pic you posted will be a good starting point. Get some proper automotive paint sample cards of these and you will probably be fairly close to the mark.

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club folks on the AACA website said the most debated color in their club is Cigarette Cream.....and the thought is that it was meant to match the cream color on the label of Old Gold cigarettes, then a very popular smoke. Don't know how much water that theory holds......but kinda interesting.

Go to a glasurit paint repair shop and scroll through their profi system colour chart ,every colour is graduated incrementally and you will most certainly find the colour you desire . Well it works for us (my wife) any way she chooses the colour and has never been wrong.

Sorry but in my old eyes this colour is not what you see when you open a bottle of cream. Very very nice colour but it is pale yellow or lemon. Heck you can give any colour any name , beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The shade of primer plays a role also.

@twenty8 Thank you for the positive response most of us are in this for the hobby and these threads can be very helpful at times maybe to spark more research and or interest.

  26. If ya got a friend at a paint store or body shop, see if you can get a small amount mixed up for your favorite candidates. Enough to do a spray out card for each color.
That’s how we did customers cars. Narrow the color down to about half dozen possible choices and do a spray out of each.
May not be very cheap these days but cheaper than painting a car with a color you don’t like.

if you have access to a master chip book, check it out.

That's a perfect example of what I pointed out. Color identification is almost impossible by everyone posting pics on the internet. Just too much variation from the actual color when viewed on a screen.

  29. Another issue it the age of the chip

but a number or color name is a good start
