In 1965, I could get the tank, frame and rear fender on a '52 Panhead done in two color flamed metalflake for a $45 and a sixpack. Adjusted for inflation, that's $459.24. Twice that and a case of beer should be about right for the paint job on the Merc, right?;)

Nah, be proud! Your "fifty footer" made it to the event, that makes it worthy of being parked with the other rides. Do not be tempted to compare the work you have done on your ride to the work others have done on their rides. Each ride was built with different beginnings, purposes, goals, budgets, and skills.
The "fifty footers" need to be there to make the "show" cars look even better. Without a base model present, there is nothing to bring to light the quality of the expensive paint and body work.

Besides all that, Lloydfest isn't about the rides as much as it is about the people that are there.

    X2.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again. And if you happen to bring/drive a hot rod/custom I'll look at that for a while.

  4. I could NOT have said it better Gene! I showed up for the inaugural LF without a car, because as usual I was out on the road too much to get something done in time:eek:.Disappointed until we got there then it was 95% about the great folks who attended.

His art work is phenomenal, looking forward to watching him work in person. Ironically on Sat Aug 30th one of the pinstripers/artists from our local club will be here at my shop for some stuff on Stubby, but nothing real artistic....Just changing the colors of the lettering & shading.

Also the 3rd member of my "FamDamily" will be making his Lloyfest debut. Gucci will be coming with us & I am sure he will visit with everybody for a short time. Rest of the time he will be sleeping in the air conditioning at the cabin:p

    God Bless
    Bill

Won't be long now! About 3 weeks? Shirts should be done any day. Everything else is in line. Gotta call about the porta potty. Gotta go pick up burgers and hotdogs and charcoal and all of that kinda stuff, but I think I'll do that on Friday during the day lol. Looking forward to seeing everybody that can make it out. Like many have said, it's the people just as much as the cars. If you can't get your car here, don't let that stop you! Unless you're one of those weirdos that just wanna sit behind that computer :confused::confused: also, there's 8, that's right, 8 horseshoe pits at the park, if that interest any of you. And we're gonna leave from the park at 10am on Saturday morning for a poker run. So if you're coming in on Saturday, and you get there after 10am, hangout, we'll be back

Last time I drove Clarence the front brakes gave me that noise alerting me that the brake pads were getting thin. Yesterday I bought the new pads and if the shop is bearable temp-wise this evening I'm going to install them. Also the starter heat shield that I recently ordered is supposed to arrive today so I'll also be installing that while I've got the front jacked up and on blocks. While this is going on I'm going to check all the pan bolts on the engine and trans to see if there's anything leaking from either of those. Something is causing tiny dots to appear on the rear doors and as I live on a gravel road they immediately attract dust and show up. I'll also check the power steering cap to see if this could be PS fluid. I'm pretty envious of you folks who have a lift and don't have to use jacks and jack stands/blocks

Got to get this stuff all straightened out before LF III in a couple of weeks. Speaking of LF, last year the brakes got squishy down there in the hills of KY. Brake fluid was getting low so I refilled it at LF II and drove it home. At home I checked all the usual suspects. Brake cylinders, brake line fittings, etc. All of that stuff was OK. Turns out that the culprit was the pressure brake light switch. It was leaking where the housing is crimped together. Changed that and brakes are still hunky dory. None-the-less I'll be checking brake fluid level before we leave. Shoot, I'm checking everything else so I think I'll check rear end grease level while I'm at it as well as coolant level. I don't think that there are any other liquid levels to check. Well; that's not counting the A/C refrigerant but I have no way to check that.

A couple of weeks ago we changed out the metering rods in the Edelbrock carb (to richen it up) and checked/regapped the plugs. Also checked all plug wires and rerouted the middle four to go over the valve covers instead of trying to keep them under the block hugger headers. Yep; really ugly but effective. One wire was completely burned in two and two wires were badly burned; the result of running them under said headers. After this maintenance I drove it 200 miles one day last week and the 350 ran like a Swiss watch. NOTE: the middle four plugs can be removed with a socket. The other four have to be removed with a 5/8" box end wrench with a pretty severe bend/offset. One more reason that I'm not feeling very enamored with these block huggers anymore.

Any of you still on the fence about attending Lloydfest III you should really make an effort to go. I guarantee you'll be glad about it if you go. See ya there.

Oh, yeah, we've got another Clarence trip to east KY and east TN coming up in October. Here's hoping it keeps on running well during these trips.

I have a old waterloo metal cooler I can donate that maybe have the striper do it up and then you can give it away or auction it off for charity or what ever. I'm sure Mike can bring it down.

    James,

I'll gladly transport your cooler but it would be better/cooler (no pun intended) for you to come on down and join up with the rest of us.

Thanks Alan. I might run down there by myself one day. I'll not be able to pry Sherry away from her siblings around Knoxville. When I go up to Johnson City to see my cousins she seldom goes with me. See ya soon and we can have long discussions about eastern TN.

IMG_20250820_151107.jpg i got the heap running on the primary carb Monday evening. Spent most of yesterday making a solid rod throttle shaft and tweaking it. I'm dying to test drive it, but the other day before i tore it down to put the new intake on, i was testing the distributor Timing and the front caliper was grabbing and sticking so i ordered a new one and it should be in now. Gotta call the parts store and see.

Maybe I'll paint my coil bracket and have the pinstriper touch it up for me!?!? Might help distract from the awful holes in the firewall?!?

I'm gonna get him to stripe my dash. Just whatever he wants to do on it.

That's awesome man! Really freaking cool. I've gotta a smaller cooler, around the early 60's, I'm gonna get it striped lol.
