We lost Pat Ganahl three years ago today.
I remember because we were attending a vintage drag racing event, (different event than the one Pat was at), when we heard the news.
I miss his articles, his writings, his opinions, and his perspective on any number of topics.
    RIP "Too Tall"

I only met Pat twice. 1st time was when he shot my Merc for lost Hot Rods and the 2nd time at book signing at Aero Books in Burbank. I was honored to have him shoot my Merc and always enjoyed reading his articles. RIP Pat! pg3 (1).jpg pagan6.jpg pagan5 (1).jpg

The toughest day of my life, we had a lot of plans. He was good to me, and he appreciated what I did for him. He was also one of a couple magazine Editors that could run a lathe ! Pat and I at Pomona.jpg

3 years already? Jeez, time's going too fast.
Lord, please bless Pat. He was a good friend to all hot rodders. Even to those of us who didn't know him personally.

    Sad News
met him at LARS , was standing near his roadster ready to take a photo
as he approached I asked "are you Pat"
he replied "do I owe you money"
he signed a photo of my coupe for me which I treasure
    Nice guy, sadly missed :(

  11. Alas @pgan, we knew him well. A man of man of great wisdom, wit, and words. His words, many, his photographs, well, you know. And then there’s the cars. The shoebox is well known, what you might not know is he was the caretaker of the Bill Burnham roadster.

  12. chryslerfan55, do you mean the baby blue roadster? I thought Bill Burnham's grandson had that car.

I was at Toutle this past Saturday shooting a lot of pictures of the cars and the people. I thought about Too Tall a lot during the day!

  14. You’re right. I stand corrected.

I agree 100%. Best automotive journalist of all-time! Major loss to the community as well as his family of course...

Nothing to add to all the above except that his presence is Still with Us and will be as long as we remember. Pat, wherever you are, please save us some spots!

I have all his blogs still on my phone, and occasionally run through them wishing there were more to come. One of, if not the best all around automotive journalists. He is missed my many. R.I.P. Pat.

I got the hubcaps from a friend, and shipped them to him without any notice. When he learned they were free, he wanted the guy’s number, gave him a call, ended up doing a small feature in TRJ on his 29 Coupster.

  27. Pat jumping out in the middle of Phillips Lane at the Louisville Nats and taking a head on shot of me and ol’ HotrodA bearing down on him is an everlasting memory! Wish I had the pic.

Rest In Peace, Tall One. You and your talents are sorely missed.

  28. Sure do miss my friend Pat @pgan Ganahl :(

First met "Too Tall" (through my father) in the late ‘70s . . . but really got to know him in August of 1990 when he shot the “HEMI 32” Coupe for a feature in ROD&Custom (when Dad was battling cancer :() . . . Although my father (“Deuce Bruce” Olson) & his best friend (Gary “Goodguy” Meadors) had numerous articles & photographs published in several different magazines (e.g., streetscene, ROD
Action, STREET RODDER, HOT ROD, ROD&Custom, GOODGUY’s Gazette, etc.); my father never had any of his own cars “featured” in a magazine . . . Sadly, Dad lost his battle with cancer in October of 1990 so he never got to see the two articles that appeared in the December 1991 issue of ROD&Custom:

    R&C - Dec 91 - pg 28.jpg
    R&C - Dec 91 - pg 29.jpg
    R&C - Dec 91 - pg 30.jpg

    R&C - Dec 91 - pg 64.jpg
    R&C - Dec 91 - pg 65.jpg
Pat & I kept in touch throughout the years . . . exchanging emails as well as many H.A.M.B. “conversations” . . . and I always looked forward to our visits at a west coast car show or nostalgia drag race . . . It is hard to believe that its already been 3 years since we lost Pat . . . my heart still aches for Anna, Bill, & Sabina :(

Same here. He treated me that way as well through a few emails we shared. Just seemed like "one of the guys".
    Much respect.
Here's a link to what I think was one of the first of many HAMB threads about Pat's passing.
