It was cooler (read that "not as hot as lately") in my shop today so I got started on the brakes. Turns out the pads are nearly as thick as the new ones I bought. HOWEVER, there was a small piece of metal down in there that shouldn't have been there. The pic below is one that I found on the net somewhere. See those two shiny pieces on the lower right. The thin piece on the left side of each is what broke off of one of them and made its way down into the brakes and was rubbing on the rotor, thus making the noise. Fortunately I'm a packrat and have another (more or less complete) A$pen/V0lare front so I just stole one off of that and put it back together. At that point I had to clean up and go get sweetie at the Amtrak station and go to dinner. I'm not going back out there tonight and get all hot and sweaty again. Tomorrow morning's dance card is filled but I hope to check the passenger side tomorrow afternoon just to make sure it's alright. The new pads aren't going back for a refund. If I had gotten them from NAPA or O'Reilly's or something I would; but the local one-man parts house I go to I try to buy as much stuff from him as I can. I really don't want to see him go out of business. I'll mark the box and put them on a shelf for future use.

EDIT: I've loaded hundreds of pix to the hamb but this one doesn't want to load. Sorry, but you can click and see the pic.

  3. Two weeks from TODAY!!!!

Finally off the road as of an hour ago, by Monday I will have everything else caught up (Laura, Mom & Dad, Etc) then it is all Stubby until he is right. Hopefully only a day or two, because I will be on the road for almost the whole month of Sept after we get back from LF III. That means the trucks & trailer need to be up to date on all maintenance before we get there.

Can't wait to get to the cabin, unload & meetup at the food joint Thursday Evening!:)

    God Bless

Bill, you really need to just drive that thing down there and not fool with all that loading/unloading stuff.

    You too, Steve.

You don't see Lloyd trailering his car do you?

It sounds like it's in Lloyd's front yard the way I take it.

Ha, the Chevy would be stopping every 10 exits for gas! The year I put my '55 on the road is when I'll drive down. Guess I'm not as hard core as Randy!

  9. Ok Mike..... You & Shari stop over here on your way to LF III & pickup the dog, Laura & all her luggage, then I will drive Stubby down! LMAO:eek:

Seriously though, back when she was still in the wheelchair most of the time (a couple weeks after LF II) we drove Stubby 100 miles round trip to a big weekly cruise & she commented that it was not too bad of a ride!

If I had more time to fix some gremlins in the Nash or put some miles locally on the GP, driving one of them down would not be out of the question & Laura loves the Nash! Big back seat for Gucci, big trunk for luggage & rides like a dream!

Holy Hell!, you guys are gonna give me a complex!
After going for a ride in Steves' insane '57 , i dunno how a guy could drive it too far unless he owned a Gasoline company!
That brute processes a whole bunch of air and fuel real fast!

Got my new caliper on and took it for a test ride. The single carb worked well, so i went ahead and put the other two carbs on and made the fuel line and put the homemade linkage on. I only once forgot to put a second nut on before flaring the second end of the tube! Lol.
After i got it buttoned up, i took it to a little car meet at a local chuch, then to a couple beer joints because it was so nice out...!
It wanted to load up some at the stop lights and i felt a little self conscious having to clean it out with the loud pipes in town. But out on the road when those two secondarys are turned on, it really GOs! It definitely needs some tweaking that being the first time with the new set-up, but I'm hopefull that i can get it working well.

You're a real, true, hot rod/ car guy man. Build it and beat on it! I love it! Cars that sit in garages just fucking kill me. Sell the damn thing and give the money to your wife to spend on her boyfriend :p:D:cool:

  16. Yeah well...Some of us have the collector mentality & then when Business/ Life Issues get in the way they don't get driven (or finished) when we would like them to. Yes.....Randy is definitely a true hard core hot rodder!!!!

I gotta tell on myself, when i took my heap out last evening i was so geeked up to test it out that i neglected to check the fuel level. I drove past our road coming back from town to go to a beer joint down the road about 7 miles, about half way there while testing the new secondary carbs out it started to break-up, sputter, and died. I immediately thought something had broke till i looked it over and decided to check the gas tank ... EMPTY!...I called my wife , who quickly grabbed a can of gas and came to my rescue. I was sitting on the bank, up in the weeds, blinkers on the car by the road , feeling like a dumbass!

I'm not sure what camshaft you have in it, but have you checked your vacuum? I'm a body man, but every 3X2 setup I've done, I eliminated the power valves on the end carburetors. If you have 15" of vacuum at idle, and 3 power valves rated at 8.5, they're all gonna dump gas at idle and load up. Plug the end carburetors and put a 7.5 in the middle. Or half of what your vacuum reading is. Always worked for me anyway lol

'70 lt-1 vette clone, solid lifter with lots of overlap. No power valves in secondarys, i got the rebuild kits from @carbking. He's been helpful over the phone so far. I don't know what the powervalve is rated in the primary. I'm thinking i may have float levels too high in the secondarys also. The secondary carbs are true '58 chevy secondarys.

    What transmission are you running?

  27. Randy, At one time in the 80's we leased a gas station, so my gas was basically free....I constantly ran my El Camino out of fuel on the way to work in the morning, because I was too tired (or lazy) to fill up before I left work the evening before!

That is a GREAT solid lifter cam! Ran that in the Nova a long time ago & loved it with an original Torker manifold, 750 CFM D.P. & a 4 speed!

Lloyd, I figured it was a fun poke at me, because I can't seem to finish anything! LOL:p

Never! You're my people :D:cool: sometimes I like to rage bait some of my buddies just to get a rise out of them! County line hot rod association.... because their car has yet to cross the county line :):):) my buddy that I play music with has one of the nicest big block 68 Camaro's in the country, he's spent so much money on that car that it makes me sick! Yet when I ask him to come to Bowling Green with it, he says he's not sure about driving it that far o_O

I picked up $750 in Lloydfest III shirts yesterday. Porta potty is ordered. The guys at the firehouse told me they'll have the park freshly mowed. Spread the word, hope we have a good crowd this year!

  30. Man, if only someone could step up and take care of M'Lady for a week!
I would come in this. Only 800 mi or so. DSCN2521.JPG
