BEEN ON THE HUNT FOR A 5 WINDOW HI -BOY FOR AWHILE....SEEMS THE 32 GUYS ARE REALLY hard to get ahold of now days...have their car for sale, then won't respond back...prices seem crazy high... so i guess anything under 100k is a good deal....???????? anyway... this coupe is a real steel car with glass fenders.... figured... pull the fenders and Bahm.. it's a hi boy... didn't get much history on the car... bought from a flipper in utah...
stopped in little field az to get gas... I was filling up when the guy next to me was fuss'n with some thing in his trailer... guess he didn't cross the tie downs and the coupe slide to one side... so I helped him to get it back straight with a floor jack... said he was going to the bryce canyon fly in car show.... and then the good part... says the cars for sale... wants 75k.... floored me... 75k... in a laughing way I said.... how much with out the truck and trailer...???? he laughed... said... have you seen the price of a real 32 chopped with a blower motor...I was not to pick on your car... but it got lost in the 80's somewhere.... the tweed interior... even the dash and molding are tweed...he says... 2 or 3 k and the whole interior will be knew... so I though... he's right... a guy could spend some money.. say 10k and it would jump right in line...so,.. he dropped the price and I bought it... not nothing against full fenders... but just not what I want right now..so the plan... pull the fenders and new interior...
gonna be a tough start.... I've changed my mind 10 times about pulling the fenders...I'll have to paint the frame... no big deal...but... I think this car has some history...hi desert hotrods??? or something like that.... I just sit in a chair and dream about what to do with it....I like the look with the fenders and it sits right... so maybe just keep detailing it untill I get on a path???
little progress, took the dash out and garnish molding stripped the tweed and got first coat (2) of paint....pulled the door panels looked easy, on with christmas trees.....not... who ever put the handles on didn't have the correct dowl pins.... too long and won't let the spring go in.... took over 4 hrs to get the damn panels off..
ordered the bias cheater slicks and bias frnt tires.... haven't landed on wheels yet.. probley some thing chrome?????? I didn't think the painted wheels will look right for me... so wheel hunting
landed on some wheels that will work, got the dash out to strip tweed...getting closer.... oh and ordered new seats... I thought the backs were too high...not knocking them if other like that look, it's just not for me...
so I took off fenders, running boards, splash apron ,seats , yards of tweed, tires and wheels... is that enough to say " I built the car"?
