Old school FED vs New school

Why did FED dragster builders drop the torsion front suspension in favor of a solid mount axle ? I have a solid and it sucks to drive at 170mph and stopping is a nightmare.

have you tried with out the wing.. I put one on my hanna body car and took it off after one pass...

 

and, asking for a friend... why does that effect stopping???
