I bought a set of ready made blue dot tail light lenses for my 28 model A PU . (Yea I know there not legal in my state ) I installed them today and realized the blue dot is in the brake light section of the lense ( top portion ) so it only illuminates when the brakes are applied . Is this the traditional way there ran ?? I always assumed the blue dot was lite when the tail lights were on ????????? I saw some lenses advertised that actually say STOP in brake section of the light and the dot is on the lower tail light section opposite of about how all the other lenses are sold .
I thought I read that the Blue dot was like a up North states bad weather in 30's from rear to Identification of police ,law-enforcement , emergency equipment from distance. Running Light side . Snow , rain , fog
make your Model A smart....then no more dumb Model A questions The two Model A's I have, that have blue dots, are both in the running light part of the lamp, not on the stop lamp, but they are also later lamp assemblies...I don't know about the actual "A" lamp assemblies.... and blue dots but brake lamp doesn't make sense does it...
I don't think it makes sense but that about how all the one sold are offered from speed way to eBay to moon . Mine are lke these 1928-31 Ford Model A Tail Light Assembly with Blue Dot (mooneyesusa.com) These are the other way around with the do in the running light section but is don't like the amber and the word stop on them 1928 1931 Ford Model A Car 'STOP' Tail Light Lamp Lens w/ BLUE DOT A-13450-SBD | eBay I was wondering what they did in the olden days LOL
Of all of them I've seen, which wasn't in the old days, they are mostly Red while driving, but really go Purple when the brakes are on. We are talking 39s, 40s, and others. They didn't shout pull me over until the brakes lit 'em up. Here's a current search of 15 other posts with Blue Dot in the title. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...lue+dot&o=relevance&c[title_only]=1&c[node]=5
All I can say is that those damned things are annoying as hell when you have to follow them for a couple hundred miles at night. A buddy I did road trips a lot had them for a while until he followed his car in another car one night.
My Model A had the dots on top. Never had a question from law enforcement. Drove that rod 27 years, 110k miles.
It has somthing to do with the eye not accepting the different light waves, at the same time. There was was a news article 35 - 40 years ago, about an early evening kiddie show, in Japan. The report spoke of the use of blue and red lights flashing together ( simultaneously ) The result was hospital ER rooms filling up with parents with their children, because the kids suffered spontaneous dizziness and vomiting, while watching the show.
Yes only Blue when the brakes are applied.....or turn signals if you ride has them. Sorry this image is not clearer, but "Blue Dots" only illuminate "Blue" with the Brakes are applied. That's because the "dot" is centered over the center of the bulb in most cases. The light is dispersed around the Dot and out the red part of most lenses. Kind-a a Blueish-Purple if they are the Glass "dots". Sometime the plastic dots are not as bright or blue.
HMMMM don't a lot/ most of those lights shown have a dual element bulb ( 1157 if 12V ) were the stop is just brighter and light would be going through the dot all the time ???? I guess unless I want to drill my own lenses its what I'll live with if I keep them in . Wonder how hard it is to get a hole in the glass I have never tried it . I was just disappointed after putting them in I cant even see what both look like at once unless I put put rock on the brake pedal LOL.
Dual element is the key. The brighter element is directly behind the "Blue-Dot" give off the signature Blueee Glow
The blue is darker. Low illumination around the sides with the reflector shows Red, but the center is only dimly Blue. Brighter illumination makes it glow.
Hello, Those blue dot tail lights are attractive for all hot rods. They were a valued accessory to add to a lot of old hot rods, just to have a little something extra on the custom hot rods. 1934 Ford Phaeton with a custom California Top Goleta, CA The stylish looks were popular on other year hot rods, too. Hot rods that had them on during those popular, but hated CHP vehicle check points came away with a “fix-it” ticket. They were/are illegal as the blue light interferes with the vision of the following cars and that the only blue light is for police motorcycles. An easy fix as it unbolts and the stock all red lens gets added for a neighborhood police check off ticket. Jnaki I have followed old hot rod sedans at night for a different photo shoot and they are a little irritating with the blue light that shows purple messes with your vision. Two of them shining brightly was irritating, as they just make the eyesight focus on the blue/purple light. Before we sold our 327 powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery, my wife and I were about to put on dual blue dot taillights on the rear of the build, wired so the back up light was over the license plate and each side would have a chrome base + the blue dot housings. As for the following things, Caddy SUVs are very annoying, especially when the driver is one who constantly taps the brakes on the freeway.
Im aware there illegal in my state . As far as them annoying people following me thats only going the be when a brake or turn signal on . So its minimal at best. It never occurred to me that blue dot tail lights were really only blue dot brake lights . I got to look at them in the dark last night and I would need to move the bulb closer and or directly behind the dot to really even make them noticeable. The dots are to dark IMO. They are glass I had to be at the right height and angle to even note the blue . Kind of a dud from what I hoped for or expected. I'll likely take them off . In this case the juice was not worth the squeeze.
