Not sure who owns it now but it's still out there and being driven as Alex was fixing collision damage on it last year.

Kirk bought a spray gun or something and the Chinese instructions said May Cause Dangerous hence the grammar.

You're welcome. I looked back at his build thread and it was a pressure pot that the instructions were for. No pictures left and very little description but I think they were using it for Cob Webbing on the car so that's why he used the name.

The name of the car was weird, but memorable because when I read the title I knew immediately what car it was referring to. Coolest 60 Ford I’ve ever seen.

MCD was sold a second time at Barrett-Jackson. On the same day that The Legion Special was also sold for its second time there. A guy bought MCD for his daughter. Location unknown. The buyer of The Legion Special is also unknown.

The name May Cause Dangerous did indeed come from the instructions included in the Harbor Freight pressure pot KIRK! bought to do the cobwebbing.

KIRK! is not "into Volkswagens" but he did recently build a '68 Squareback for his wife. Word on the streets is that he got tired of the politics in the hot rod world and bailed on it completely after retiring 10 years ago at 45. He now spends all of his time and money on art and world travel. I'm sure he is very honored by the kind words about his past. I have heard that he does his Instagramming at k__i__r__k and KirkJones.Art

You got tired of hot rod politics and retired? That’s rich. Remember the whole domain fiasco?

Me too, I thought the name was a similar reference. I suppose it kinda was, neat to hear the real story.

Ha ha! He sure did. I’m sure your opinion and belief have no bearing on that reality. The beauty of wise investments and his wife having a very successful business.

I don’t know anything about the reality Kirk Jones lives in. All I know is our past. See, I rarely get involved with drama of any kind. So, when I find myself in some social mess, I tend to remember it. And I tend to keep receipts.

Just replying to this is a bit out of character for me. Normally, I’d ignore it, close your account, and move on with my life. But I think this is a story that is begging to be told given the context of this thread.

In the later parts of 2014, my dad died of a broken heart after my sister killed herself. I was in the darkest moments of my life and really, was just barely functioning at all. As a result, I let some things slip. One of those things was the registration of the domain jalopyjournal.net.

In October of 2014, I got an email from one of Kirk’s good friends.

“Hey Ryan, I know you are going through it right now and I hate to bring this to your attention. Kirk is one of my best friends, but this just isn’t right.”

Attached to this email was a link to a Facebook post:

    IMG_0034.jpeg

I won’t include the comments to protect the guilty, but the discourse lead to what the domain could be used for. Things like “homo dating site,” “gay erotic porn,” etc… were pitched by Kirk.

The thing is, I didn’t really know Kirk. I had hosted his build thread and helped him promote his car, but had maybe met him in person once or twice. To me, he was a jokester that didn’t take much seriously, but harmless and well meaning for the most part.

So, I sent Kirk an email:

Kirk responded by saying he noticed the domain was available, so he bought it… and that he had plans for it, but that he would sell it back to me for $5000.

So when Kirk says he “retired” from hot rodding because of politics? Bullshit. He didn’t run from politics, he bathed in it. He hunted for angles, played every game he could, and left a trail of wreckage and bullshit in his wake.

I pulled in my lawyer, went through ICAAN, and got the domain back. Not without slogging through a pile of bullshit emails from Kirk and a steady stream of apologetic notes from his buddies—each with their own story about the damage he’d left behind. And there were plenty.

Whenever I hear Kirk’s name, that whole fiasco comes flooding back. For years, I brushed it off as a long time ago, told myself we were younger then, maybe he’d grown up, matured, figured his life out. Hell, I know I have.

But the truth is, some people never change. They talk about it, maybe even dress it up like they have, but deep down they’re still running the same tired hustle. Different planes, different worlds.

@Ryan I take your word as good as gold, never met you but ALWAYS felt and had the impression you are a stand up guy so I have no reason to doubt any word above and with that said I feel ashamed that someone who calls themselves a "hot rodder" "friend" or whatever would stoop so low.

And to thank you for fighting to reclaim what was/is already yours.

Sadly there are those in this hobby that are exactly like that, always looking for the edge, the quick buck and always looking out for Number 1, themselves....

Ryan, sorry if I hit a sore spot with you in regards to Kirk! the the the thread I started was really about the car not the man. What I remember about Kirk! was his posts started getting really off color, kinky, and weird. I assumed thats why he was banned never knowing that what he did with the website deal was really crappy and essentially extorsion!

@Ryan Thank you for taking action back then and keeping us alive. Who knew?!
    We’re better off for that.

He’s better off in that he still has all his teeth.

I read this thread because of the title of it.
But going through it I’ve a feeling that the reply by “eleven” may have been the original owner of the car, based on Ryan’s reply.

Best thing is Ryan has the domain, , but dang, so sorry to hear of the circumstances that occurred with him at the time.

Real bad deal… doubt he knew, but that doesn’t really matter to me…

End of the day, it was what it was, and it shook out the way it shook out. Gambino did build a mean fucking Ford though. :)
