Sorry for your loss, I have had comfort two treasured dogs while they went for their final nap recently, thankfully they had much longer lives. Our vet was very accommodating and showed a lot of empathy which helped. Treasure the memories.

Got the coupe out, put 5 miles around the neighborhood. It was 93 degrees, 55 psi oil pressure, 180 temp, 14 volts from the gen. Steering tight, brakes are great, no leaks.Got a lot of thumbs up. Fun, fun, fun!!

Had the coupe out again. Squared up the front end, fixed a couple little issues. Set the idle and mixtures
Runs great. Now I must center the steering wheel and fix an exhaust hanger. PXL_20250803_022909014.jpg PXL_20250803_023417339.jpg PXL_20250803_023015106.MP.jpg

OK, grief part is behind me. Started back on the coupe, found out that's the best therapy!!! Working on the switch panel, windshield, secured the hard brake lines on the rear. Ty-raps just didn't cut it. Secured the battery and it's vent lines. All that's fine but makes for boring pictures. Plan on painting the windshield frame metallic silver, with the body opening primer red. Now I can concentrate on putting some miles on her, along with some trust!! Wish me luck!!!

Lowered the air cleaner base about an inch. Cleared all the controls. Only issue were the float adjustment hardware. Cut some holes and made some bump ups out of 1 inch copper pipe caps trimmed down. JB weld and some paint finished off the job. Not a big change, but I like the results

I like it and the cutouts you made for the float screws will prevent the base from turning and possibly jamming the throttle. cool.

I was watching an old episode of the Gran Tour, those twats were in Africa driving dune buggies, and the ape put a V8 in his wannabe Manx. The low-rise air-cleaner would vibrate around until it pinned the throttle open. He couldn't come up with a sane idea to prevent that. You did! Bravo

I love just sitting there coming up with a different twist on things. My whole car was built that way. I am almost sad to be coming to an end! But I have discovered it's a fricken blast to drive!! I figure I will drive it to work the kinks out. Then pull it apart for better paint. Still like the red oxide for a final color, firewall and belly an off white. Time to start thinking about interior choices!

    I like your progress.

If you are going to do better paint on the body, why not real paint?

In primer, the uninformed will always call it a rat rod, despite the build quality.
Also, back in the day, yes, there were 'in progress' rods with primer, but every rodder's aspiration was to have a gloss paint finish that was at least as good as brand new oem paint jobs.

    Love your build,

My last build, a 63 Corvette actually won best paint awards at the Boise Roadster show and many other local events. I did all the paint myself, I didn't have any fingerprints for at least a year. Between the labor and the current cost, primer makes me happy. Get a Nick, no problem! Plus I might change my mind, you never know!! IMG_1610.JPG

A friend of mine built quite a handful of cars, most of them primered, on a regular basis, he got the "when ya gonna paint it", he got pretty adept at replying "primer is paint"!!!

Oh yeah!! Just put, 17 miles on the coupe.
Ran great! Steering is tight and responsive. Brakes work great, light pedal pressure, nice straight stops. Got loads of waves, thumbs up, and a guy took pictures. Great evening. Oil pressure at 55, water temp 180, and the old gen stayed at 14.2 volts!!! Life is good!!

I appreciate all the input, but the final color is my choice! Red oxide primer is still my first choice! Off white belly and firewall. All the aluminum, radiator and the shroud satin black.Chevy orange SBC with flat black exhaust system. Interior will also be black and white.

@Splitbudaba You build it for YOU!
I keep pondering body and paint on my lil project. I keep going back to "Will it take time and money to achieve a higher level, and will that detract from time enjoying it and other wants and needs?"
It's going to be primer for a while! Especially when it's fenderless and resources are limited.
You've put in the time and effort for a ton of details that make you happy. You know you can do a super paint, so it's a choice. As Rick Nelson says

I think primer is a great choice, but I'd think a little more about using white as part of the interior if you want the upholstery to look good for years to come. Not knocking the color, but white just seems to show wear and tear and discoloration sooner (IMHO).:) Just something to think about.........
