  1. When you plan a vacation and you have to visit some "special places", maybe by yourself, and they have nothing to do with T&A!

I did not. I tried googling it hoping to find a back door but the search engine realized my age and sent me links to calendars with old, saggy nurses and ED adverts.

You are at your quiet lake cabin smoking a cigar drinking a beer and it's Friday night. Its peaceful and you have the whole week off after Labor day to spend fishing. But you miss your garage already and thinking about having that drive shaft made for your 41 PU when you get back home.

I own a bicycle shop and along with bikes, I have 2 Olds deep dish steering wheels, the cool ones, several steering columns and steering boxes, a 60s Harley panhead frame, a couple of 97s, a 50 Buick grille, numerous car mags in my "office', and during the slow season I bring car stuff to work on in the repair area. I'm forgetting some of it, but does that qualify?

This thread is funny as Hell, and 100% true. Outstanding thread subject!

When I holler to the wife that I'm going to go look at some junk at 10:15 pm and she knows I really am going to go check out some stuff that I want to get before someone else does.

You put a ford steering wheel on your pontoon and wire in an ahooga horn for the pontoon parade? Too much?

Haha! Made me laugh out loud! My neighbour is looking for a pontoon boat. Should tell him to do the same.

When you buy your first car at age 14,
Get it to the local dirt track before age 15.

Did you ever hear of that old men's magazine for married men? Same foldout every month.

When you dream of a woman who makes damn good money finds you a larger shop, cars and parts you need.
    Hey I said it was a dream….:)

  15. 15? You were an old man I was under 6 months! I was born December 12th of 1981 and in the pits at Hartsville-Darlington early March of 1982 and at the Spring Winston Cup race at Rockingham the same month!

When you offer to pay for motel rooms when your relatives visit and you have two guest bedrooms but they are full of parts that have been painted or chromed and there is no place in the garage for them. HRP

  18. Bandit Billy When your wife is upset that you are looking at cars and parts and never looking at porn when she walks in the room.
You hit the nail on the head. My wife would quietly sneak into my office while I am on the computer and all she sees is car and sled classifieds

Never got the upset wife thing, us car guys spend more time in the garage than anywhere else like bars or such, there's no time to chase after other woman. I think Jay Leno's wife is known to have said something like "he can have 200 cars but only one woman" and any sensible woman should be happy with that...

But I'm an ugly old man so no woman anyway. At least I don't have to worry about this issue in my life;)

A buddy of mine took his wife to a demolition derby on his wedding night. They came to see me drive in it. He was in the pits with me.

When you start buying parts for a car you might buy in the future, but haven't even seen one for sale. Or when you start a car build, and already have a majority of what you need sitting in the shop.

  24. For some the H.A.M.B. is their only outlet for cars due to life and family obligations.

You and I spoke about the deal with my (new) neighbor trying to claim my backyard as Her's and the large about of time and money (lawyer survey) it cost me, even though the property markers were in place and everyone's deeds agreed.

Some (me included) and dealing with sick family members, I drove and spent the better part of a week in Rochester NY with my aunt from Middleburg for Leukemia treatments as week as well as bringing her home. (From Middleburg to Rochester is over three hours one way.

I know a few others whose builds are in a holding pattern for family matters.

  25. My wife said you can't buy another car until you sell one. So I did and now I'm looking.

Do "car guys" earn some sort of benefit ? No ? Then it's just more BS , right?

This entire thread is mostly about just having fun. If you can't join in and have fun, maybe you shouldn't have opened it and looked inside.

Being a "car guy" has been very beneficial for many here, me included. your overall attitue is pretty poor.

Being a car guy was the only thing that kept me in high school, that power mechanics class was my life saver.
Being a car guy got me my first real job at 15 1/2, my 2nd real job 7 years later. Being a car guy provided me with a very good side income when I started working in factory work (that factory job paid better then pulling wrenches. my knowledge of automotive function advanced me into the factory maintenance department, heavy machine repair segment (the 2nd highest paying labor related job in our city at he rip old age of 26). After a life changing health event, that automotive knowledge allowed me to open my own welding shop where 75% of the work load was automotive related and where I retired from.
Being able that car guy after high school allowed me to repair a young ladies old beat up car. That was how my wife of 49 years and I met.
Is that enough of "some sort of benefit from being a "car guy" has done for me?"
Is it enough for you to admit it might not be just more BS?

Years (decades) back I heard a statistic that 1/5 of the workforce of America was automotive related.
OE design and manufacture, sales and service, finance and insurance, fuel and other parts. I don't know if this included roads. With modern factories and offshoring, it's probably dropped quite a bit and many of those jobs are not hands in the beast, but there are a lot of car guys and gals and that helps everyone.

    Here's a recent article.
