It's that time of year when young men's thoughts turn to long legged, blonde haired, bikini clad (un clad?) surfer girls...and the old farts head to car shows before it starts raining and their lumbago starts to ail.

The 41st Rod Run, I have missed very few and always have a good time (other than that $550 burn out ticket a few years back) and I'm heading down a day early so I can watch the cars come into town. This isn't a city where there are 100's of freeways, routes, streets, turnpikes and alleyways into town. Fact is, there is only like 3 traffic lights. One way in, and because it is on a peninsula, one way out. After I set up camp, I plan to anchor down a spot at one of the watering holes on 101, order something zesty to drink and watch the action unveil.

I imagine this is what it would have been like lining the streets of Rome in AD 264 and watching the gladiators arrive ahead of the games. Favorites will be selected, lots will be drawn, mayhem is about to transpire, and all for our entertainment. Unlike ancient Flavia, I will be there to record the memorable events and contestants with my iPhone and relay them back to you in as real time as possible.

Ah, and therein lies the rub, being a small beach town, cell range is greatly compromised. What we need is an aqueduct for data transfer. Real time may or not be possible, no promises. My campground might as well be Sparta as far as technology is concerned but they do have showers and a snack bar. So, they have that going for them, which is nice.

As I take my role in this weekend's "end of summer vehicular orgy", I pray to sit back with my eyes full of wonder and my belly full of beer and utter those familiar Roman words "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi" - Thus Passes the Glory of the World!

Or at the very least not have a hangover on Sunday morning when I have to break camp and drive home.

More to follow, fun starts Thursday, stay tuned. Same Bat time, same Bat channel! (aceeași oră de liliac, același canal de liliac)

I've still got most of the pieces from the dash plaque that you got one piece at each poker run stop from way back when. That big sucker in the middle of the board in this shot from a NSRA event in Spokane. I don't think that the Beach Barons put it on then though. All I remember was that it was a wet weekend and we did the poker run in the rain.

Rain by seven, clear by eleven. Or when in Rome, ploaie de VII, clar prin XI
Not sure if this applies on the PNW coast at any time of year.

It’s crunch time! Loading up the trailer with camping supplies and essentials (whiskey, hot dogs and toilet paper). Last year I forgot my bath towel and had to dry off with paper towels and used micro fiber towels. Smelled like car detailer all day. The car chicks didn’t give me a second look but there was some dude in a HAMB shirt sniffing about. Awkward!

I only get about 12 mpg towing on this route. Lots of mountains between here and the coast. I’m topped up, backed up, hooked up and loaded up!

I thought about bringing the 41 PU since this is the 41st Rod Run but the roadster has been running great lately and I don’t expect rain. Her turn to dance!
    IMG_8089.jpeg
Of course now that I said that I had better toss the frog mouth scoops in the trailer. Velocity stacks and rain do a nice job of steam cleaning the valves though.

    As The Snowman would say;

“West bound and down, loaded up and truckin,
We’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.

We got a long way to go and a short time to get there,
We’re west bound, watch old Bandit run!”

Like I suspected, no internet at the camp. I’m at the fair grounds now and it is packed.

Rained hard last night, woke me up around 5:30, dumped till 7:00. We have 15-20 miles to get out to the park. Wet roads and drag tires, fun. Slipped out once when a made an ignorant downshift in a left hand corner at 45. Luckily I did my business before I rolled out.

    Here a couple

  22. That Vette looks like it’d fit right in at Half Moon Bay. Famoso or Lions. Just sayin.

One of the local Yakima guys spotted your roadster there today. I'll add his name in for photo creds when I find his post on FB again. Billy B car.jpg

6B70554B-AAAF-4849-86B2-62CBD86713B8.jpeg One day my Instructor at Vo-Tech blurted these words to me, as we were going into the paint booth, “You better pray one of your damn hippy hairs don’t wind up in my paint job “. This headliner sparked that memory.

That’s cool! I camped next to a guy from Yakima, drives a red 55 Chevy with flames, LS7, magnason (sp) innercooled super charger. I asked him if the HP figure started with a 7. He giggled and said it starts with a 1. It sounded like it.
