Guys, I have a 47 Ply , built according to the rules of the SE Gasser assoc. The engine is set back requiring the firewall to be set back. This allows for the passenger fresh air intake to put air directly into the engine compartment. Would the SE gasser rules allow an air plenum built on top of the carbs to direct flow into the carbs? THANKS,!
Is this a race only build? If 'Yes' then the air cleaners and that box etc need to be replaced with a sealed fresh air intake mating up to the hood scoop, the carbs need fresh air and lots of it. You don't want the scoop etc to be behind the carbs, the air source needs to be slighly ahead of the carbs, air has weight and as the car goes down the track you don't want the air piling up behind the carbs. A good scoop and carb pan can easily cut a tenth off the ET.
I should have stated I did read the rules, which are not clear on this issue because they talk about "hood scoops and don't mention "cowl scoops". I also sent a message to SE gassers explaining my intention but haven't received a reply, so I did my homework before posting here!!!
This is not a race only and I have found a few other issues that may not be allowed that can be easily fixed. I will probably never get it to the track but wanted it to conform to the rules for resale value if I ever sell it. Thanks Ed
