I was dropping off some headlight rings to be plated and as I was preparing to leave this bomb rolled in. He says there were 76 accessories available for the car from the dealer, he has 75. Plus a lot more from the JC Whitney catalog.

Fishing poles are a nice touch. Owner painted it himself with single stage. All the plating is done by my buddy Chrome Troy, who's head is visible on the left in the last picture (no chrome dome jokes now!). The owner/builder is on the right. I think he said it has everything other than the rear window louvers? Nice guy. He said is nearly finished with another that he is unveiling at an event this summer still.

    Hello,

This cool Impala was sitting around in need of a wash. It looked like in was line to get some detailing. It was a little dusty, like several weeks worth of staying still anywhere along the coast. So, there is a layer of fine salt water fog and moisture on that painted surface along with the local dust that everyone gets on their cars, if stationary cars, if parked in one place long enough.

One thing coastal salt air does is put on a layer of "stuff" almost every day, as the salt water influence comes in the early morning, fights the heat element all day to stay on the coastline. Sometimes, it wins and goes farther inland to coat other places with a fine film. Other times, it gets pushed back out about 5 to 10 miles into the ocean by the heat wave. Now, it just sits and bothers sailboats out for a nice day of sailing.
AND, waits its turn to return to the land and the coverage starts all over again.

So Cal is a hot bed for all sorts of custom cars and models. This one is a 1962 Impala as a custom car. The 62 Impala 409 with a 4 speed had a 6 to 8 month long wait from the dealers to get one in your hands. But, other models with smaller motors and automatics were a common sight in the dealer’s lots back then.

The owner is taking a chance that his custom car will not be stopped by the CHP or the local police for any infractions like too low to the ground or no front license plate… YRMV
