When I was in college a good buddy of mine drove a '54 Caddy hearse. I remember he paid $450 for it and it only had 45K miles on it! The only thing wrong with it was it needed mufflers so of course, we put glass packs on it! What a ride! Didn't pick up a lot of women in it though. For some reason they didn't want to ride in a hearse!

Some cool pics, not sure why they'd be in the "sitting and rotting" thread though.

The most disturbing trend I'm seeing around Alabama. These people disgust me. Letting usable/buildable vehicles rot, to be trendy. In Equality Alabama 20250920_082414.jpg

I agree, and it's not just in Alabama. I picked this 54 International from a buddy that was getting ready to scrap it. I bought it for scrap price, not bc I wanted it, but bc I didn't want it getting crushed. Besides the glass that some kids busted out, it was complete, and overall not horribly rusty. I gave it a buddy of mine, or swapped him for some hubcaps, or some shit, can't remember. He ended up selling it for somewhere around $1500 to some guy in Texas. When the guy and his wife showed up to pick it up, my buddy tried to talk cars with him, and the guy straight up told my buddy he knew nothing about cars, his wife just wanted the truck to put in her flower bed. My buddy said "I should have known they weren't car people when they pulled in the driveway in some little suv with a rented utility trailer and no way to load the truck onto the trailer! I was surprised that they even brought some straps with them!" image000001(7).jpg

Honestly, an old truck parked on landscaping stones and filled up with flower pots is probably going to survive better than one tucked in the woods in 3 foot tall weeds and filled up with pine needles and wet trash. Not that I wouldn't prefer them be turned into functional vehicles again, but I'd rather see that than them just straight get scrapped, or get their noses and tailgates get cut off to make furniture out of. At least the ones that are kept complete could theoretically be fixed at some point in the future.
