Drove the car another 50 miles or so this morning to church and then to pick up the base for the award I need to finish up today for the run in a couple weeks. Alan Childers who is a very talented young guy working at Steve Cook Creations always does the sharpie art on these to help them look cool.

For reference, this is Alan’s chopped 61 that he has been messing with for a while in his spare time when they aren’t building some Slonaker winner or something. The level of detail on this car is amazing. Hard to see, but there is tons of engraving on pretty much all the aluminum parts on the engine including those vette valve covers you can see through the panels. Also, check out the crazy lake pipes and skirts he built.

I had the steering box bolts break on my car 50 years ago. Very common.

That's odd, as much as I have fooled with those Fords of those years I have never run across that happening. Just lucky I suppose.

I'm gonna gander at mine too after reading that. Actually been hearing an odd thump every now and then. But my whole front end needs rebuilt so probably just something from that.

I know, I know, it's on my list. Fall and winter are wrench time....

Just pick eon that goes through the frame and pull it to see if it’s all crusty and pitted. If so replace all 3 of them.

  7. Going to check the steering box bolts on mine too. :) I had never heard they were a problem nor seen any broken ones.

Lost track of who said what when talking about sway bars but if you dig around the way back machine for Rocky’s thread about flipping his uprights he talks about making a junkyard swap bar work. I want to say it was a trans am? Could be wrong it’s been a couple decades

Speaking of…… Did you ever figure out why it was not picking ip the fuel after sitting for a day or two? Or since you’re driving it a lot it fixed itself?

He contacts me every once in a while, and asks me if I sold it for him yet. He is not really setting the world on fire trying to sell it himself.

I have learned that if I let it sit more than 12 hours or so, it seems to drain back or something. So, no, other than knowing how long it has to sit to cause the problem.

Well mine will drain back/evaporate every two days so if I crank it up daily then I’m good. BUT I have had it act stupid and run out of fuel one time when I accidentally flooded it and I had to use starting fluid to get the thing going again. So tomorrow or Saturday I’m going to put an electric fuel pump on her so I can prime the silly thing on its own and not have to used my air compressor to push fuel past the original pump to prime the carburetor.

When mine sits for a while, I have a Mustard/Ketchup squeeze bottle of gas I use to prime the carburetor. I simply remove the air cleaner and give it a couple of shots down the carb vent. Works every time. The squeeze bottle even has a little snap on top to seal it up.

My one worry was that the gas would eat the squeeze bottle over time. No problem after over 10 years. I guess gasoline has nothing over restaurant grade condiments.

Sweet I was wondering if having one would screw the pooch so to speak using it with the factory one ie being able to flow fuel through it with the factory one. I got a Carter 6v inline (with the impeller) I was going to mount near my tank in the back

I've had electric fuel pumps; I prefer "squeeze bottles".

yup mine are all just helper pumps. Turn them on for 30 seconds or so and then turn them off and start the car. The stock pump will pump right through them, best part is that if you vapor lock or the stock pump goes bad just flip a switch and drive home
