So, in 1954, it would have sold for $102,280. Even at the 1954 price, it was still ugly.

If somebody gave it to me, I'd drive it too. It would be my grocery getter and beer run daily driver. Walmart, here I come.:p

that's a chunk of change right there. I think better investment would be high end muscle like Hemi Cuda's, Boss 429's, Shelby Mustangs.
I really don't see why a person would even want that car other than an investment.

    It could be
If I only had a few extra mil laying around. Looks like the headlights would be easy to adjust downward. LOL
    I would if I could, but I can’t so I won’t.
Good thing I don’t as the custom guys and the gasser guys would both be after my ass.

I think you will see a lot of the old customs go for big money when found. Beau Bockman (Galpin Ford) bought it in 2022.
Hirohata Mercury, an iconic custom car built in the 1950s by the Barris Kustoms shop.
    • Sale price: It sold for a staggering $1.95 million, plus auction fees, bringing the total to $2.145 million.

Ok, A question for the Historical Record, the Sahara was found almost ten years ago and restored, did the recent sale price cover that purchase price and restoration?

It sold then for 350 grand. I can’t imagine that much more than 200 or so grand was spent on the restoration . It more than doubled in price. Anyone know who bought it?

Was watching earlier today. Seems to me a lot of cars were going for cheaper than I expected. With a few exceptions. Like to see what that custom 52 chevy goes for tomorrow.

Not sure who the buyer was but he also bought this:
    https://www.mecum.com/lots/1151357/1969-joe-bailon-barber-shop-custom/?aa_id=703964-0
He looked unassuming, he wore a baseball hat and had a back pack, ( maybe the back pack was stuffed with currency?)

Cheap enough to hopefully get that ugly steering wheel, column and gauges swapped out for whatever it was originally built with.

Nice that it was "restored", but some of those details really missed the mark.

At least the Sahara seems to have gotten all the details right.

I'm shocked the Sahara brought that much, but happy whenever a period custom sells that well. That ones really an art piece.

The guy in the hat was just a buyer for whoever bought it. He was on the phone with someone the whole time.

Anything that costs a million dollars should be considered an investment. Food, clothing, housing, transportation, all basic needs can be met at a fraction of that.
A famous art piece, a lot of farm land, anything at that price is not what it's worth, it's what you can get out of it.

I'll agree here because it is an art piece that cost that much or more to create and still can be used for transport.
I also think new car prices are ridiculous.

not everything a person spends a million dollars on is an investment. say you spent a million on a new airplane for personal use. after 5 years of use you will not be able to sell it for a profit.
there are good investments, bad investments, and just plain purchases.

Just wondering if AAA would change the tire on the Sahara! It does have a spare, right?

This is a way nicer car to me, but the Sahara was really way ahead of its time. Too bad they put all that stuff on such an ugly car but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A lot of folks thought that the Tucker was ugly as sin………

When built the Sahara was not an ugly car. It was futuristic. It was built as a showcase for what could be. It’s still not an ugly car!
