Theres Been some pretty fast car
    That where Yellow !!
Does not seem To many that say
    Their Rodder's or Racer's know
    History or are Hobby ;)

  2. You and I are on the same page as I said and always said ever one is free to like or dislike whatever they want, and yes, the O.P. said Yellow is truly for most Cowards and Chickens" anything yellow is chicken.
For many green is good luck however in racing green is bad luck, (something I have never understood given the green flag means go, and racer likes the green handed out at the payout window.). Peanuts are bad luck as well.
Personally, I don't believe luck but went I am going to the races I avoid green and don't eat peanuts for a respect for tradition.
I am sure many people wouldn't understand and might think that is weird.

There was also the Mags weren't made for stripes whitewalls statement which is a look I can take or leave depending on the car.
In their on American Racing Wheels had narrows and full whitewalls.

That is my point just because you don't like or understand part of the vintage hot rod/racing hobby (I view it as a way of like) doesn't mean it is wrong and make an effort to learn.

As the Original Poster I think you are waaay overthinking my sentiments. Every absolute has an exception. That is the point. Flat Power has a Coupe which goes against many known gaffs in the Hot Rod World. So much so it inspired me to put words to it. Everyone should have a rowdy Hot Rod at least for a while in their life. That is definitely one I'd own.

And I am old enough to remember the real deal guys. I myself am now "old enuff". I have Uncles alive and passed who were cooler than the other side of the pillow. Many of my ways have been shaped and learned from these guys.

The post was not meant to rile up discontent or get a battle of computer keys going. Although I gotta say I do admire a man who is swift with verbose disdain put to an eloquent tempo.

So this was all in a love of what appears to be a true Hot Rod that made my pants tight in light of some pretty hard and fast rules in the ways I've lived for 53 years.

Be as serious as you are, Yellow is still associated often with Cowards and Chickens, Most Mags should never ever see Whitewalls, most common and sought after Hot Rods are '32, and Channeled Cars still mostly Suck...........

In my Pea of a Brain which develops humble opines.

  8. I took the opening post as tongue-in-cheek, and so nothing to take seriously. I've read some and skimmed some of this thread, so I'm curious: has anyone mentioned the 'yellow car' in American Graffiti yet?

I had an ex who was big on yellow cars, so we had one of 'em. She did me dirty, which has caused me to be permanently turned off to yellow cars, yellow in general, and redheads.

I have seen many yellow cars and trucks that I thought looked great and really stood out around other different color similar cars..........but I have never had the desire to own/drive one myself.

I think white wall tires look ok on Custom cars after 1934 but look out of place on a pre 35 Hot Rod. Generally pre 35 cars (Ford/Chevy/Plymouth ) aren't built as Customs, and if someone is trying to project a performance image........then whitewall tires just don't agree with that image.

Channeling looks OK if done properly, but it usually causes problems with being able to chop the top of a 32 because of the limited headroom that it creates. Chopping the top of a 32 gives it a better profile and has become THE accepted modification for 29-34 Coupes. Given these two options for getting the car to look lower, I think chopping is preferable to channeling.

Now that doesn't mean that a well done yellow channeled 32 doesn't create eye appeal for me, not that it matters to anyone but me............thats just MHO. :D

Depends on the car but I like yellow... especially a pale yellow or a school bus yellow.

And I like 32s but they are kind of like belly buttons in a way.

chopped or channeled is a personal thing. It may look nice but I can't fit inside comfortably at 6'3.

For a while I had a well worn pale yellow 40 La Salle four-door sedan with a factory sunroof. I liked it but sold it because I had too many projects...

My brother bought an old yella coupe a few years ago, and turned it into something that most everyone here would love to have. And it’s even a 32! ;)

Now he’s got yella in his blood, and drives a daisy colored Effie every day.

I have had a few different model cars that were yellow. Just as any color on a car, it has to match the particular car theme you are trying to obtain. Mustang Show 2018.jpg

Nine sec drag cars look ok in yellow I think. This one made 1200 passes down the 1/4 and I wasn't afraid to race anybody. I painted it yellow to help hide my bad bodywork! T launch 07.jpg HAMB Drags '05 lined up.jpg

    and everyone owns a '32.....

I recall many years ago when Deuce Roadster (Randy Nash) was talking to his wife about '32 Fords and commented they were kinda rare and very desirable, her reply was if they are so rare how come all your friends own one or more? HRP

That Yellow coupe was a true Jersey Style back in the 50's and early 60's. Jersey style was a frame over channel and un-chopped. Cut the cross brace and floor out but save the sub rails. The rear kick up sub rails were removed. The body was pulled out and dropped over the frame and the saved sub rails were bolted to the bottom of the frame rails. Rear frame horns were also cut off. Firewall to be modified. Made a new floor and had a channeled Hot Rod

IMG_2885.jpeg It needs a blower or a Hemi to offset the body . That would balance the look of the car .
