You shouldn’t need a ballast resistor with 6volts. I know Ford used them early on, but you should be okay? Verify that first.

Funny how all the fuel drained out but the air bubble didn't burp. If you have ever worked on a mid engine car with the radiator in the front (similar to your setup) they have special procedures and some have a few strategically placed bleed holes at high points. If you are running it more on the stand, you might add them to the upper copper tubes.

We warned you to have a hose to cool the thing! :D

Might want to check water pump flow somehow before installation. This is not the normal setup, maybe the long tubing from radiator to pumps are restricting the pump flow.

Hope you let it cool fully before retorque unless directions are otherwise.

Been so long since I read up on that I honestly can’t recall 100%, but at some point I got it because I thought it was required, but will need to verify.

Got a bleeder valve on each pipe coming off of the heads which is the highest point (or very close). I should have paid more attention as mentioned. I realize getting all the air out will be a challenge, so maybe more bleeder valves or something.
Didn’t quite wait until things were at room temp when I re-torqued. We’ll see. Her boyfriend noticed one coolant leak at one of the copper solder joints coming off the DS head. I think he also said there was a fuel leak at the sediment bowl inlet, and at the rear of the intake manifold on the PS rear.
Lots to digest and must now plan what are the next steps.

Watching Jamie from Dead Dodge Garage complain about brand new sticking float needle valves and mentions it’s about to become an Uncle Tony’s vid raging about new parts. lol! He dumpster dives and reuses the old ones with the old seats. Too funny!

you got the water pipes wrong. both pumps are fighting each other. you need one pump feeding one head, not the pumps feeding each other. each side is a separate system

I thought about that too... the 2 into 1 down by the crank pulley is a lot of water to move. Also consider running the fans all the time, and not have them on a thermostat. I really appreciate you bringing this to light in a separate thread, I picked up a few tips from others when it comes time to my do my flathead start up.

That's the T5 Camaro tail housing I sold you, isn't it?

Can’t say for sure, as this was always a question mark for me. Surely, I have never tested it. Haha!
The thing to remember is that all fluid flow is based on a pressure differential. Pressure will always be higher at a pump’s outlet than its inlet, but this of course assumes there are no “obstructions” to the flow. As I mentioned, before shutting it down, both the inlet pipes and outlet pipes were hot, but the rad core was not hot. Even the pipes in and out of the rad were hot. A few minutes after shutting it down, I grabbed a thermocouple for one of my multi-meters and measured the temp of the coolant pipe coming off of the DS head, and it showed 180F. Temp of the DS head was about 200F.
I’m hoping it was just air trapped in the system that was the culprit which is more than likely as it was never purged of any air. We’ll see soon enough.

Ok... I sold a rear shift T5 tail to some one up North building a special car with a rear shifter application. Must have been thinking of some other fella. Congrats on your successful start up!

    Thanks!

I sold some T5 stuff to guy in the USA. I think it was the “short” shifter rail and a tail hsg. I traded the rest of my leftover T5 parts to the guy who finished assembling my T5. He was really hoping I had that short shifter rail. Lol!
