I didn't need another project, but she was calling my name. Went to a friend's (RIP) estate sale today. He was a Model A restorer, but I didn't even know he had this one. Probably the roughest one there. But I like 'em rough. It has history with his family, and they were happy I ended up with it. And yes, they know I'm not a restorer. The price was about 1/4 of what I'd expected. Stuff was being bought cheap. It's got the banger in it. 060 over pistons. Turns over freely. No cylinder head and missing other external engine parts, radiator & shell & the RF fender. It's time to move a couple other projects along to new owners and get busy on the keepers.
Looks like a good project. Glad you, and their family, are happy. Sorry about the loss of your friend.
Yes, Vicky was the Kardashian of the 30's. I really don't have a solidified plan yet. The idea of getting it running and having a hopped-up banger is intriguing, but I always lean toward the 50's style: Flathead, wide 5s or '35 wires, etc. Or the 60's style: Chrome or steel wheels, Olds or Nailhead powered, etc. For now, I just need to 1) make room, 2) list a couple of other projects that are too far down my list to get to, and 3) finish the current project & get started on my '49 Merc. My belief is that even if you don't get to a project, it's OK to replace it with a cooler project.
Alright, build plan, check, vehicle, check, frame, pending, front suspension, pending, rear axle, pending, engine, pending, interior, pending, paint, it’ll buff out ( hehe) , exhaust, pending, mufflers? You don’t need no stinking mufflers!
That car says “I need to be a hot rod” I had one once. Fancy wheels, chromed engine. Only cost a buck. Okay, it was a Hot Wheels toy, but I had one!
Model a Vicky is a dream of mine. Also the idea of a mildly channeled Vicky no fenders with a nailhead and chrome reverse does have a nice ring to it
There you go. A nice lil Vicky. A nice little nailhead. And someone already started removing the fenders for you.
Congrats on the Vicky. I can hardly wait to see your progress. How about some more pictures, like when you got it home.
@Grumpy ole A That pic was from home! Here's one from the sale: Funny thing. After I bought it, one of my late friend's family members came up to me and said he might have the title for this but would need to dig through his late Father's stuff. His father was driving it until 1970. The plates are still on it. He took my phone number. The pickup next to it was pretty nice and went for $3500 IIRC. The sedan next to that was a complete steal. $2300. Nice body. New interior. New top vinyl. I think they both ran. Parts were going too cheap. I bought a pair of bucket seats that I'm pretty sure are '60-'61 Corvair for $25. I think a bunch of A radiators and other parts were purchased by a scrapper. A friend bought a complete front axle/wishbone/spindles and a rear axle for $5 each. They had the wire wheels on them. My bro bought 2 frames both sandblasted, one was painted - $50 each.
Wow, sounds like a great sale as for as buyers go. I am sure the family is glad to see the place cleaned up.
So along with fender less, channeled and a nailhead it's getting Corvair buckets? This thing will have fallen straight out of the 60s.
