    · Power Brake booster install: http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=145936&page=7

    · Disc Brakes

o Front, Use Granada parts (requires minor spindle modification)(need link)

o Rear, Lincoln Versailles (very rare) Consider Ford Explorer 8.8" rear end swap comes with locker and disc brakes not expensive. https://www.performanceonline.com/1937-72-ford-car-brakes-brake-parts/

    · Disc brake kits and power brake boosters using Granada or Camaro parts and modified spindles can be found on Ebay.

This may help in the meantime see post #6 here https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tonight-i-am-not-happy.1103171/#post-12515347 with a 1952-56 you will need a 20" section of 3/16" brake line for the new line you will be adding and some adapter fittings.

If you convert the '56 to disc brakes it may work if it will line up with the mounting holes in the firewall,if you are going to keep the drum brakes you will need to install a proportioning valve in the system to work with the 1990 master cyl.

if going with the power booster kit . get a double diaphram booster not a single.

6 to 12 volt conversions and generator to alternator, this link refers to a 50's Chevy but almost everything can be modified and used on our Fords: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=689017 Lots of handy sources and part numbers are in the link.

Update from Watsons on relays, this is valuable info if you are going to rewire your Ford https://watsons-streetworks.com/a-current-topic/ Many of us have added additional accessories and the original ignition switches are not up to handling the load before they fail also a common complaint is dim headlights even after a Halogen upgrade you will not believe the difference after adding the relays. The section "Current topics" covers relays.

Here you will find a chart regarding wire sizes pertaining to gauge and to the length of said wire. Many times we will install one wire alternators to eliminate under the hood wiring clutter there is a lot of BAD info out there stating to use a 10 gauge wire to the positive battery terminal from the alternator. Most parts houses will have the cables with to flat eye terminals like Ford uses off the starter solenoid these are usually available in 4 or 6 gauge for around $5-$6 use those for the most common 100 amp one wires.http://www.motorcityreman.com/technical-info.html

When going to 12 volt this chart will convert bulb sizes for you: Post # 2 https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1213885-12volt-bulb-vs-6volt-bulb.html

This is how to use a OEM Ford switch with an Rebel or aftermarket harness:https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ne-daily-driver.1027219/page-18#post-12641103

Here is a picture of the 1952-54 switch. Top wire on right side is for 12 volts from the BAT on the ignition switch, the terminal under that is taillights. Moving to the left side the terminal at the top goes to the brake switch, middle terminal is parking lights, bottom terminal goes to the dimmer switch. The terminal next to the white block is the rheostat terminal for the dash lights.

More from Rebel Wire: The 50's switch only has one battery terminal and the 9+3 kit only has one battery wire for the headlight switch. So the yellow headlight power wire goes to the "B" terminal of the switch, the larger circuits kits have the two wires (GM and late Fords) should you require a second wire just add a jumper wire off the BAT terminal. Heater Core option for 1952-1955 Ford cars , you can use a Spectra 399025 Autozone price was $29.95 it was used in 1977-78 Rancheros. This is from Rock Auto https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=3610299&cc=1136663&jsn=578&jsn=578

Probably the cost is a lot more that the DIY ones we posted using Salvage yard parts.

Nothing for our cars but they do have '50s Chevy stuff............$1500!
Electric Power Steering Kit for 1950-1954 Belair (shiftsst.com)

After looking at the installation instructions......it's definitely not plug-n-play! There is welding and fabrication involved. What you're paying $1500 for is the motor and electronics. You can pick up the motor at the 'yard for $70 and the electronics on Ebay for $60. You may need a different coupler to mate the EPS motor to your column but I listed a link to the company that has them for another $70. Let's see, $1500 vs $200? You be the judge!

HEI Distributors in SBF engines: There is a picture here that explains it with text:http://www.fordmuscleforums.com/all...-length-w-85-dizzy-oil-driveshaft-length.html Standard and long shaft HEI's are available here: http://www.skipwhiteperformance.com/default.aspx Call before you order to specify.

1952-56 Ford drive shaft info, with a 302/AOD or C4 swap you can use a 1982-86 Ford Crown Vic drive shaft it has the correct front yoke for both you can bolt it up to the stock 1949-56 Ford stock raer ends by using a NEAPCO 2-0291 U-Joint the NAPA unit is part # Perfection 506 UPDATE Tip: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/aod-c4-mystery-yoke-leak-solved.1225492/#post-14004943

    5.0 EFI swap http://www.midnightdsigns.com/Mustang/Engine.htm
Small Block Ford, AKA SBF (260/289/302/351W)
    FE Ford: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/ford-fairlane-500-1957-engine-swap-v6-to-fe390.953789/
Notes - 260/289/302 engines are your best bet for an easy fit. 351W engines will fit, however they are slightly wider at the heads, which may cause clearance issues (such as headers, steering box, etc). Head and block info:
    http://diyford.com/ford-cylinder-heads-valvetrain-interchange-small-block/
Clearance between the water pump pulley and radiator can be tight, especially when using the v-belt 70-78 Windsor pump (5.700" hub to base). For v-belt applications, a short water pump (5.440" hub to base, pass side inlet, 65-73 SBF and some later tucks) should be used. A Ford Motorsport M-8501-E351S can also be used for even more clearance. The FMS short pump will require custom pulleys, available from CVS Racing
Depending on the thickness of the radiator used, and the water pump used, an electric cooling fan may be required
    Motor/Trans Mounts ('54+)
    - 1986 Lincoln MKII/Thunderbird/Mustang 5.0, Anchor part # 2725 (L) and 2726 (R)
    - 1963 Falcon 260 mounts, Anchor # 2220 (L) and 2221 (R) - In my experience, these are a better option if you are having firewall/trans tunnel clearance issues, as they position the engine lower and further forward. These are the mounts I used with my '54 302/T5 swap because I was running into firewall/throttle linkage clearance issues with the Lincoln mounts.
    - Prothane 6-501-BL - Prothane Motor & Transmission Mounts - The matching mount for C4 or AOD is this: http://www.jegs.com/i/Prothane/311/6-1605/10002/-1?parentProductId=762286
    - T5 transmission mounts - Energy Suspension 3-1109G(need link). I ended up using a universal trans mount kit (Prothane#311-6-501-BL) on the stock crossmember for my '54 w/302/T5.
    - Butch's Cool Stuff also offers a bolt-on engine/trans mount kit... SBF in a 17" 52/53, SBF in a 15" 52/53, SBC in a 52/53, 54/56 V8, 54/56 I6, and others. They also offer a 5% discount for group members or a 10% discount for HAMB alliance members.
    Y-Block Swap in a 52-53 Ford Scroll down to post #21 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/anybody-got-a-y-block-in-a-shoebox.177373/
    Notes
    - Here is an album with good photos of the minor modifications that need to be made to the motor mount pads on the factory crossmember for '54+ cars when using the factory style SFB mounts above.
    - Polyurethane mounts are less prone to separation than the Anchor parts that are now made in India/China.
    - Above applications are for 260/289/302 swaps. For 351W swaps, clearance may be an issue. See Rockabillykat666's thread part 1, and part 2 regarding 351W fitment experiences and ideas.
1952-54 Ford gas tanks These always seem hard to get and cost more,Good News! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1955-gas-tank-in-a-54.985110/
    Oil Pan
    - '52 and '53 Fords - dual sump oil pan from a fox-body Mustang.
    - '54-'56 Fords - front sump oil pan should be used (use Melling 68-S pickup).

More about Ford Engine swaps: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...yet-incomplete-ford-v8-swappers-guide.199198/

If you are thinking of an engine swap here is some good info you may want to save http://www.carnut.com/specs/fengdim.html However one part that needs correction is the SBF which like SBC's also had a short and long water pump the short pump and balancer from 1965-69 will shorten an SBF overall by 2 1/2"

For the front sump pans I recommend http://kmjperformance.com/sbf-ford-...ark-blue-small-block-windsor-260-289-5-0.html good prices! the pickup is a Melling part# 68-S available at Autozone for $16.49 always change the oil pump drive shaft part# IS-68 $11.99 or if you use a HP pump get the H.D. shaft available from A.R.P.

Thinking about doing an engine swap? Putting a Y-block in a 1949-53 Ford car lots of pictures and text: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177373&page=2 Here is another take to doing it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1950-shoe-box-y-block-install.1051398/

    Headers

Hedman Part # 88400 (1949-59 Ford cars) actually listed for a 1965-69 Mustang 289-302 No clearance issues with these and actually better steering box clearance than most manifolds offer, usually best deal is this place: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SHORTY-SS-...5-0-/402423811890?vxp=mtr&hash=item5db2540f32

I contacted Scott Thompson from Classic Exhaust and tailpipes for 1952-59 Fords will run $120 for both sides plus shipping. Phone is (440)466-5460 ask for Him when you call and tell Him you are a group member. http://classicexhaustinc.com/exhaustsystems.htm#Ford (This link is still good as of Aug 2018) However call for current pricing.

From Page 4 Hedman 88400 fit with a 351W & C4 in a 1954 Ford there was a little bit of tweaking with the motor mounts to move it back a little further, check out the pictures to follow.

    Radiator

    Radiators
See Page 5 of this "Sticky"for pictures of a radiator swap.
    Early Mustang radiators seems to almost bolt in;

    1964-66 measures 16 3/8" X 19 7/8"
    1967-69 measures 16 3/8" X 16 7/8"

V6 rad has pass side top port and driver side lower port and V8 rad has both ports on the pass side. If buying a V8 Mustang radiator, these measurements are for the small block (289/302) radiators). 390/427 radiators are bigger. NEW ! 11/25/20 If you are running the early short 289 water pump or have the 223 Six cylinder now there is a radiator that is a direct bolt in for 1952-56 Fords: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Row-Perf...949-1953-Ford-Cars-Chevy-Engine/123914986055? ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 Thanks ! To member Greaser 35

eBay has loads of inexpensive options, many with custom options like bigger ports, multiple cores, with or w/o trans cooler ports, etc.

Here is a heater hose that will take care of the problem when you run a hei in a 302 eng. Use heater hose number nbh 9813, this is a long one or nbh 9806, this is a short one they have a 90-degree bend on one end use a straight heater hose nipple in the manifold these are napa numbers this worked fine in my 55

how can one tell if they have the long or short water pump by looking? and is it possible to fit the 65-69 pump and balancer on a later 302 (80s early 90s) if any of us has one? Yes, the early pump has a passenger side lower hose the long pump is 1970 and later and the lower hose is driver’s side, you must match the year of the pump to the same years of pulleys, Ford also made three different lengths of balancers to make things more confusing. This will explain it in detail, scroll down to my post:http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/sbf-short-water-pump-pulleys.303600/

Tech Info on using AN fittings and hoses: http://www.rodauthority.com/tech-st...se-practices-with-fragola-performance-systems Video on AN's https://www.racingjunk.com/news/vid...2_26_20_Burnout_Newsletter Content Newsletter

heater core # 399025 available at most parts stores. very slight modification to the housing using a round file.

Champion Radiator now has a "3 row x 1" tube" radiator for our cars at a great price in any configuration you need. Standard set up is passenger side upper hose and driver’s side lower, but for $80 they moved my lower to the passenger side. They can also set it up for front or rear positions i.e., V6 or V8. 07/29/20 Notation Update" The radiator for 1952-56 Ford swaps which is a 1967 Mustang 20" core unit can be had both ways. If you used the early 1965-69 289 "short" water pump you want the radiator listed for a V8 car (passenger side lower hose outlet) If your SBF has a 1970 and later "long" pump, then use the 6 cylinder radiator which has the driver’s side lower hose. When you shop ebay put "1967 Mustang Radiator 20" in Search then on the left of the column you will see "brand choice" select Champion.

We have found that the 1952-56 cars have issues with radiator clearance if the car had a V8 previously the 6 cyl cars had their radiators mounted more forward and there was a difference in the splash pan attachment panels the pictures below show the fix. Scroll down for additional pictures.

    From the engine side.

In regard to the pictures above, you can see how close the electric fan with shroud are to the water pump pulley. So, keep in mind two things and that is first the pan shield requires being cut like the above pictures if you are replacing a Flathead or Y-block V8 the Six cylinder cars already have the radiator positioned further forward. Second notice the last picture shows that the water pump has a drivers side lower hose that indicates it is a 1970 and later "long pump" using a 1966-69 289 short pump and balancer will gain about 4" extra clearance. The picture here shows a 1954 Ford that had a Six and now has a 302 with the early short pump and the radiator in the stock 6 cyl location. Also when doing a swap we have found the AOD a better fit than using a C4 regarding the transmission cross member mount the specs here tell the tale http://non-stoptransmission.com/en/info-ford.php This illustration shows why you have more radiator to fan space if you are doing a 302/351 swap in a 52-56 car that had a Six from the factory ,look in the bottom right corner at the sheet metal that moves the radiator mounting forward.

What allows the radiator to be placed further forward in a '54 with a 6 cylinder are the two panels shown in the right lower section here part #6775 & 6776

Picture of a 1966 Mustang radiator used in a 1952-55 swap with the shorter 1965-69 289 water pump and dampener. (lower hose is passenger side)

How to figure rear end ratio: https://www.rodauthority.com/news/whats-gear-ratio-find-out/
Explorer rear ends will fit just have to move the spring saddles a little. Get a 97 - 01 and get disc brakes. 96 down get drum brakes.

Ranger rears work also but the spring saddles are on top and need to be moved to the bottom . Rangers have smaller brakes.

Actually , Ford 8" rears from 65 to 69 Mustangs along with Mavericks , Comets will fit .
The 9" Ford rears from 1957 to 59 from cars & wagon will fit along with Cougar rears from 67 to 69 will fit to .
You need the rear to measure 57" give or take 1/2" from the outside of the brake drum to the other brake d
Jim, Here is another chart from Hemmings http://www.hemmings.com/partslocator/axles.html Newer 8" info: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1952-56-rear-end-swap.1026934/#post-11623044

Great idea, as for the shocks if you want higher end Bilstein shocks designed for your lowered front end get part number 55-R230 from RCD Classics

If you buy the kit from Jamco and order the upgraded shocks. The ones that comes with it are too long ask for the part number above.

Regarding Ranger rear axles; look for 1990-92 are 56.5", they got wider after that. Also, look for a super cab 4X4. The four cylinder and some small sixes had the small rear end, (7.5) which may be OK for putzing around, but the small brakes had trouble stopping a Ranger. The ten inch brakes will bolt on any housing, find the backing plates and drums off the same donnor. The 8.8 in my 55 is 56 5/8 outside to outside. It came with a 3.73 Traction Loc. Ranger and 8.8 axle information is here: http://therangerstation.com/tech_library/index-axles.shtml

    not all ranger rear axles work depending on aplication) 83-92 7.5 are 56 1/2 wide 83-92 7.5 are 58 1/2 90-92 8.8 are 56 1/2 and 93-99 8.8 are 58 1/2 Full info on them can be found here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Ford-8_8-axle.shtml

in searching for rear shocks for my '55, these are the 3 choices that came up most often as (affordable) OE replacement. Most sites don't seem to include all options if you choose 'Fairlane' as a model, but Hollanders lists this for the interchange:

8.8 rear end Tech,These rears are popular swap material that can be found in later Rangers and Explorers usually under $200 at most Pic-A Parts many have locker rear ends this shows you what to look for and how to read the codes: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Ford-8_8-axle.shtml A practice becoming popular with these is to use the 31 spline axles that come with disc brakes which are wider than the earlier models,to narrow them folks cut down one side and use the shorter axle on the cut side this gives a rear about 56" wide (makes for EZ tire changing) Here is a video showing the narrowing process on a 7.5" Ranger the same applies to the 8.8" rears.
