Trying to get a few last minute things done this week before the Hot Rod Hundred this Saturday. Not sure I will get everything done I want to, but at least need to get the front u-joint swapped out since it seems to be causing a vibration. Got it apart last night, just need to put the new u-joint in and put the driveshaft back in. Also looking over things underneath while it is up in the air. Now that I traced some wiring, pulling some extra add-on, then abandoned stuff out as well.

Working through my list of last second things before the drive tomorrow. And, taking my grandson for a ride running errands including getting donuts. :)

I am also thankful that the previous owner put the 12v battery in the trunk to help with starting. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have a source to charge my phone when I’ll be driving most of tomorrow. Picked up a USB port to wire to that battery today.

Got the exact same setup, 12v in the trunk. I added a retrosounds radio that has a USB hookup. Looks old, has all the modern stuff you want.

Speaking of radio…my grandson was sitting on the car while I was loading up T-shirts, etc. to go stuff bags tonight for tomorrow. Anyway, I just jumped in to head to town and heard a humming sound. Once I figured out it was the radio, I tuned it to a station I knew…and, it sounds great!

Oh, and just followed @MMM1693 in his T coupe into town since he came down for the run tomorrow. He also just handed me a 6v fuel pump and some stock pumps! :)

Couple pics from this evening stuffing T-shirts in bags with some of the other CrossMember guys. Also had dinner with @MMM1693 which is always a good time.

Just shy of 400 miles driven today and also just shy of 1200 total in the last month. :D Also tripped across this car full of drunk guys at the gas station just now. Tag on the back went out in the 70’s too… Sad, because it was a really nice car not long ago. :(

  15. Also ..... shimming lca for drop. Anyone know of a write up on that? I can figure out how to do it but I assume it drops the car more than the thickness of the shim

Basically drops it twice as much as the spacer. I put 1/2” thick spacers on my 56 and it dropped it an inch. I’m pretty sure most folks use 1” spacers to get 2” drop.

  17. See that was what I was kinda thinking. But my brain was too tired to do the math lol.

One of the participants in the Hot Rod Hundred yesterday had the fat guy with the big hat pose in front of his car and then sent me this pic…

This was at the end up in Wakita, OK which is basically a ghost town other than the Twister movie museum we drove to see. Main attraction was the great BBQ that my buddy smokes. :D

He said pecan, hickory, and peach. All I know is that it is about the best smoked meats I have ever had which is why he has catered this event for the last 10 years or so.

Was out of town for work for the past couple weeks but got home last night. So, since I was registered and also needed to deliver a dropped axle to Clay from St. Louis, decided to head to Bartlesville this afternoon to see lots of friends and check out some of the cars that were in town for the Gathering at the Roc. Also was able to go to Murphy’s for dinner with Bret and Clay since that is tradition anytime we are in Bartlesville. Got to meet @Zax in the parking lot too and check out his very cool Model A roadster.

Here are a few pics I took although there is plenty of coverage of this event all over the place.

Also, I thought the car seemed to get decent gas mileage but never really think to check it. So, last night when I filled up in Bartlesville to head back home, I decided to calculate it. I was pretty happy to come up with 16 mpg. Is that normal for a flathead? I have never really had a car with a flathead that drove as much as I do this one.

My '41 Merc with a late flathead does about the same-16-18 depending on speed and weather. Your car is very nice!

It is always a pleasure Dan! I still can’t believe that you come down from Minnesota in your coupe just to drive 100 miles with us. :D

  30. Final gearing has a LOT to do with gas mileage. Of course, engine power/torque must be adequate.
