There are two relays on a Shovelhead, strange one on the starter one looks like a Ford unit .Clean Grounds are must and burnt contacts will drive a wooden Indian crazy . Just thinkin outloud , I’m sure you have checked everything to this point . Batteries today are totally junk stuff . Load test maybe in order if you haven’t yet . Man the kicker was good , but age is showing up on me now . Don’t like to have to kick off the old dudes often anymore . I did today and got soaked in a storm , just like the good old days !

After the video I tried jumping it at solenoid again and it just sparked but that was it. Then I rapped on the solenoid with a hammer and still only the click at the relay "Ford looking one", then I rapped on the starter and finally got a click at the solenoid.
So at least I know power is getting to the solenoid, battery fully charged and even still had the charger hooked to it. I wish this thing had a kicker, hell I'd be riding.

All done ! I was surprised at how easy it was to disassemble. I had the right color paint and used a couple axle lock nuts for the missing headlights, and salvaged the trailer decals, ready for another 100,000 thousand miles. IMG_2065.JPG IMG_2064.JPG

There is one on the primary to engage the starter drive isn’t there . Not to be a pest , but just thinking out loud . Check for current at the starter positive terminal ( test light ) when you hear the relay engage . Contacts get crusty , coil engages ( click sound ) but no current is passing . Again not to be a pest , just thinking out loud . The old dudes aren’t much fun when stupid stuff happens . I always had trouble with handle bar buttons for start on Shovelheads .

Pulled this 4L80 out of my son's Suburban, I might go through it myself still thinking about that. Looks like it needs the intake pulled off also. IMG_2068.JPG

Reman. units start at $2500 , my friends Transmission shop is standing room only. He would work me in but I hate using favors when I don't have to. He stocks what I need, for around a grand with a convertor.
He is young guy in his forties who walked one of my boys through a complete 700 rebuild for that my son did as his senior project in HS.
At no charge, so you young guys keep that in mind with the teenagers you meet. Share your skills. But I digress !
I can't pick them up anymore so I had to take the slow route to get it on the table, but there she sits. Pretty well smoked from the looks of things so here we go. IMG_2071.JPG IMG_2070.JPG IMG_2069.JPG

Every time I see a Tiger I'm reminded of the one my grade school pals' older brother had, bought when I was around twelve years old, 1966, was British Racing Green, sexy little thing.

That is how a motor should look, nice and clean with no China crap on it. Plus a nice set of headers ! and those heads.

Put the motor back onto the lathe finally. Lathe is mechanically in good shape. However several key adjustments were lacking. My Son captured this without me knowing. IMG_4721.jpeg

Looks like the OD planetary came apart and in turn ruined the forward drum, the 4th gear drum and a couple other hard parts as well. That sucks. IMG_2083.JPG IMG_2082.JPG IMG_2080.JPG

Went to a machine shop today that's been closed up for 10 years or so, tons of 350 4 bolt blocks and big block stuff everywhere. I saw a nice set of 292 turbo heads that looked professionally ported and scored em cheap. When I got home I saw the RHS stamps on the ends 20251004_173307.jpg 20251004_173341.jpg

Nice, I was looking at an engine on marketplace that had 492 heads on it, precursor to the 292 could be had with straight or angle plugs but both had 2.02 valves.
