Look on the bright side - once you are past the wear bars you'll have none of those traction robbing air spaces in the tread.

    Hello,

It is all for show and hopefully we all know that. Some folks still don’t get the picture. A catchy slogan for sure…

If the time period is fairly accurate as to the activities in the film, the late 50s with the white Impala would be right in line.
    upload_2025-9-30_4-35-23.png
But, the one thing we learned is if one lays a strip of dual tires smoking off of the line, you lose.

Even on the street, if one lays a strip on the surface, the opponent is off and running away. So, we learned fast and with our 58 Impala, the stock tires for class competition was always pure rubber on the tarmac. When we put on the Bruce slicks during the timing runs prior to the eliminations, again, traction was the name of the game and those slicks were always an up in speed and low in e.t. times. No smoke off of the starting line.
    upload_2025-9-30_4-36-50.png
No smoke from the tires, just traction for the best times.

When we got the new C&O Stick Hydro installed, there was no way to peel away at anytime. Every start from a stop light or on our Cherry Avenue Drags location provided pure traction. By the time the other driver realized it was GO, the Impala was about two car lengths ahead with the Positraction 4:56 gears and the C&O Stick Hydro doing its fast get away action.

So, as several TV shows always show burn outs from the position on a street, , they never do those burn outs when the timing lights turn green at the certified dragstrip location. Green light means pure traction and no loss of traction from burning tires leaving a trail of smoke… YRMV

We are not John Force Racing cars with 10000hp motors, too…yikes!

My 49 pickup tends to be a bit light in the rear and is bit nose heavy. With a V8, and over 4,000lbs weight, the single wheel drive does lack a bit of traction if I step on the gas pedal too hard from a standing start. I'm an old man, so I try hard not to "peel out" intentionally, but sometimes I overestimate the traction level. I usually let off the gas when the tires remind me about the low traction. There probably really isn't much difference in the "peel out" if I let off the gas, or kept in it until the traction caught up, but by letting off I can cover it with an oops, and not look like I'm trying to show off or something.

i still giggle when i fart. let's face it: they're magical.
you can be in a room with 20 people, somebody squeaks one out, and No One thinks it's the door hinge, or a chair was dragged across the hardwood floor . i mean, they're
like snowflakes for crying out loud. each has its own little personality.

    i think it's a gift.

    The Cherry Ave drags....

A good buddy of ours was burning rubber on the back street behind Harbor Chevrolet. 1967 SS 396 Chevelle. Pretty fast car. When he pulled out onto Cherry just up the street from Reath Automotive the cops were waiting. They wrote him up for exhibition of speed without seeing anything, just from the sound. I laughed and asked if he thought he was at the sonic drags. Evidently LBPD did.

Anyhow down at 415 W. Ocean Blvd, sadly one of our often visited locations, the Long Beach Courthouse, we sat as he took the case to court. The judge got mad at the cops and chewed them out for writing him up for what they didn't see. They never figured he would take it to court. A small victory but unfortunately, we usually ended taking traffic school, or just paying $40.00.

After buying the Tiger , everyone local that has one has stopped by , with their car . It’s a different crowd of people than usually stop by ! But one guy says hop in let’s go for a ride . His Tiger will peel out with the best of anything , traction is not going to happen well in a well prepped Tiger . I used to peel out plenty with a hot 90 plus cubic old Harley , but those days are gone also . Thanks for the memories

My fault, the nuts were not very tight, after lapping the side that broke and torquing, I may be ok but what a PITA.

Last night! I forgot how hard my stick car launches, especialy with the new to me radial rear tires. First one was not much rpm at launch, testing the waters so to speak, a little tire noise.o_O Second one I came out at 5k,!

My long-time neighbor jokes that I am "tractionally challenged" which is pretty fitting. Was driving the hot rod around a bit and my across the street neighbors were out. Meghan shouted "do a burnout" so I felt like I had to oblige. This isn't really a burnout just a 25mph roll. (Tried to imbed the vidya but TJJ says this is not a valid link???)

Today I went around the block in the roadster, half way around I knew that one needle and seat was stuck- leaking. So I pulled over at an intersection, opened the hood, and tapped on the carburetor, all good. As I am closing the hood I noticed about a half dozen old dudes in their lawn chairs sitting on the front lawn, they are all looking my way. I get in, and proceed to do a giant, melty burnout leaving the stop sign. They were cheering and clapping! Made my day too!! 1759699034650978821756475406767.jpg

Funny story, years ago my step son Jim called and asked to bring the flatbed trailer as his car had a trans problem, So I hook up the trailer and find him and his car on the road with the sign pictured, huge puddle of trans oil under his car. As I'm walking up to him the first thing he tells me, the rubber lines on the road was not him, Hmmmm, I don't say anything, we load the car up and take it back home, his Mother rips him a new one and I'm trying not to laugh, thinking back how many times my Dad towed me home with a chain, I got real good at keeping the chain tight. All said and done I did ask him if he learned anything today, his answer was, yes as he is looking at has shoes. Good kid, turned out to be a good adult. I have many stories of me driving like a dumb ass in my youth.

  19. Haven't peeled out for a while, but do like the "chirp" you get when it hits second gear just right.

  20. Nope, tire smoke see wasted horsepower! Hook it up and go!

A Dale Inman (Richard Petty's cousin and an 8 time championship winning crew chief) quote on victory lane burnouts.

You don't see the winner of the Kentucky Derby get off his horse and start beating the shit out of it!

This ain't the Kentucky Derby, and these are cars, not horses. He can go piss up a rope.
A little burnout is not beating the shit out of anything.

That will cost you $ 1,100.00 in Wildwood. Ask me how I know...... might be the best money I've ever spent. ()Didn't do shit to discourage my juvinile behavior though.) Technically it's called "Did embed rubber in a public roadway". Lots of fun if you're not endangering any spectators.

Thinking about this subject, now 77, once in a while my inner child shows up, still alive and well and I stand on one of my cars, need for speed Never dies in my case, it has diminished with time. My Dodge Magnum RT hustles along pretty good, love the feeling, brings up memories, life is good. Funny story, had the Dodge on a cruise UP Michigan and I let her RIP and thought man for a big ole car, this 5.7 Hemi pulls pretty good as the sheriff coming toward me up out of a dip in the road, flips his lights on. Hmmm, Shitski, how much is this going to cost me. I pulled over instantly, he asked, do you know how fast you were going, my answer, Too fast Sir. He stated 120 on his radar and we get talking and he's a car guy. He writes me a ticket for 77 in a 55, $280 and 6 points, very big break IMO. My insurance agent ripped me a new one over this event ( wife is in the insurance business) and I heard about this for a while. I always say, I'm a lucky man in so many ways, been married 41 years together for 45 years., dragged her to every shit hole dirt track in the Midwest in my racing days, again I'm a very lucky man ! Everyone Have a Great Day ! My am coffee and the HAMB, pretty good start of the day.

The big deal at my high school(Boy's Tech, Milwaukee) was to back your car up to the front doors and do a burn out. Usually done on a Saturday or Sunday night. You had to back up on the sidewalk to get to the doors. I never did that though. 14125003_10157307603940627_5095430853745151264_o.jpg
