You need this for a cruise o matic. Bushing removal and installation tool. This one is for a TH350. This may work. Pretty sure TH350 and C-4 are the same. Cruise o matic may be same as C-4.
On the C4 transmission, I removed the tailhousing and replaced the bushing. Shouldn't that also work with the Cruise O Matic? Regards Harald
I think that’s possible but I’m trying to avoid removing the tail housing as I think it’ll lead to a world of pain.
Unlike other transmissions, on the cast iron Cruise-O-Matic, the gear train comes out the back of the case. When you unbolt the tail housing you have to be somewhat careful.
I did wonder why when I scanned through the workshop manual almost the last step of disassembly was removing the tail housing.
Tighten rear band adjustment all the way in and it keep rotating parts pretty good in their places. Rear shaft, governor, oil pump compination will not come out just like that. There is pipes, governor and oil pump inlet tube.
I have one of those steel tools with an expander on the inside. I used it to remove and replace a t5 bushing. It worked well. I had the alum version before and it was a waste of money. I think the ebay seller was Zamcotoolsusa. The t5 is the same as the c4 which is the smaller id. The c6 is larger which I believe is the same as a tremec 3550 and the newer tko and tkx units.
There's a video on youtube that a trans guy is showing how to use the tool that will answer questions if you have any.
I ground a screwdriver blade and welded to a slide hammer years ago to pull these bushings . You may try the same
I tried hammering a tapered drift into the groove in my extension housing but I couldn't get the bushing to fold enough to get it out, ended up pulling the housing and used a socket to tap the bushing out. I used a thin layer of RTV on the extension housing gasket when I put it back together the second time. The stupid paper gasket leaked the first time around when I installed it without any sealant.
