Mixed up some epoxy primer today and took care of a few items. Got lots more to do! Learning how to adjust the gun for how I like it. There is more to this painting stuff than meets the eye.
Trevor and Saul showed up so we put Saul to work painting. Me and Trevor stayed out of his way He did a great job on all these little parts.
We'd better see all those little parts bolted together over the next few days!! I don't think I did***** today except bring the Soulman to the work site and cut him loose.
Got a little ways to go....not sure if I am going to have time to get everything done before Dewey in September.....doing as much as I can, when I can!

Trevor and Saul came by today and we did a little work on the Sedan Delivery today. Trying to get all the bare metal covered so I don't have to keep dealing with rust. We shot some primer and also got the window put in the rear door. That was a bit challenging for a couple of rookies but we made it happen. Almost forgot about the gas struts I installed on the hood instead of trying to get the springs on. A couple of weekends ago Trevor and I tried using a tool I made years ago to remove the springs to put them back on, and the spring broke when we tried stretching it out with the floor jack to install the tool. It could have been disastrous, breaking like that. Trevor suggested putting the gas struts on, I searched it on the innerwebs and damned if there wasn't a video for putting gas struts on a 51 Chevy. $25 bucks on Amazon later, and it was a done deal. Very east installation. All it required was drilling a few holes in inconspicuous places.
A couple more pics from yesterday from Trevor's camera roll.....we ALMOST mixed up enough epoxy primer to getting the passenger side done but had to mix up just a tad bit more. It will be nice to see the entire car in primer finally!
One thing about the stainless on the rear window. I don't know if it is because the rubber seal is different or what, but the little piece that connects the 2 halves together just barely covers the ends and if it slides just a 1/8" either way it won't cover both ends. I'm going to use a small dab of silicone under it to hold it in place. I actually need to order some black urethane sealer for the window channels so I will probably use a dab of that. I'd hate to lose that little piece.
Wish you would think twice about urathane to set your glass. When it dries it’s tough to get loose. Glass setting rubber tape works fine. Opinion only
That's exactly what I want to "glue" the window channels/tracks in with. Not to glue the glass in. This is the channel/tracks in the door frame tha is along the opening that the glass rides in. I probably am not describing it very well. Here is a couple of pics of what I'm talking about.
Got yeah! Be sure to wear rubber gloves. I’ve still got black stains on hands from 20 years of urethane in the car factory
We always used a small chain to put hood springs on. Hook one end of the spring on the car and put the end of the chain on the other end of the spring and pull on the chain and hook the spring on the other side of the hinge and relax your pull on the chain Easy Peasy your done. I worked in a body shop when these hood springs were common.
I had forgotten you worked there. I have used that stuff before and it is nasty for sure! Hope you are doing well sir. That steering column i got from you years ago has worked well on this old car. Much easier to turn than the 49-52 columns.
Thanks Dave......trying to get the thing where I can at least leave it outside for a few hours without worrying about flash or surface rust. I am real close to driving it again. Getting that back window in was an arduous task but plenty of Dawn and a piece of small rope did the trick. It should make it a bit more pleasant to drive too with the back door and window in it.....LOL! that 235 is rowdy sounding!
Thinking about getting some lumber and making some walk boards to go along side the car and slide them through a couple of 6' step ladders. Make a scaffolding of sorts to get the top of the car sprayed with primer. Maybe tip the car up on one side to make it easier to spray by jacking it up and putting some ramps or something under the front and back wheels. There is a lot of real estate up top to get prepped and primed. Im sure the brain trust/think tank of Trevor and Saul will come up with something!!
I had the same struggle with the back window in my Merc. I paid a guy (pro) to put it in before I left for Indy and the bottom popped loose on the way. Took him 4 hours. When I got home, dad and I had it done in 20 minutes, but it was a whole lot of dawn and a few blisters on the heel of my hand from banging it in. LOL
I worked at a body shop and saw 5 gallon cans around the walls of the paint booth and that’s what Shorty uses when he fainted a roof or hood. A lot of times I painted them for him
I broke the driver's side windshield half when we installed the windshield. Bumping it with the heel of my hand. Pissed me right off and I said "I'm done for the day!".....ordered another piece and it went in a lot easier for some reason.
