Here's a photo of Gabby's car after he put a blower on the Olds.

Sorry about the poor quality image. Gabby was kinda short, wiry and tough as nails but a great guy to talk to if you met him.

 

The Guzler out of Evergreen Park, IL was run by Bud Roche, Don Mattison and John Kranenberg. Initially they ran gas but eventually went fuel racing with one of their later cars.

I'm working with "HAP" (Harrison) Peyton (R.L.'s younger brother) to adapt his memoir "Wildman" to an indie film. We'll be at the Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals in Vegas in ten days. Of course Hap's got a ton ;-) but I'd love any other R.L. Peyton photos, videos, articles and stories - and any other great ones of stars and cars or scenes of the era (specifically 1964-1967).

That Picture was taken at Oswego. Judging from the gravel pit area, the picture of Gabby may have been too.

I got Guzler cornfused with Chizler.

The drag race circles are close, but not that close. The names are very close and through out the later years, the guzzler was still run by the same team. But, not “The Chizzler” in the 1959 version and later years for display at various museums, such as the Lion’s Dragstrip warehouse showcase.



The left FED is the red/silver one by Kris Karamesines, called the Chizzler.

The Chizzler was one of the traveling pros that headed West for the largest drag race in 1959.

I was fortunate to get a good photo of the later version, still called “The Chizzler” at the set up day of the Lion’s Dragstrip Museum in 2017.
