I bought a ´59 El Camino last summer from a hamber Fedsled. I had a plan to make a g***er but more I think about the idea it makes me hesitate. I have seen some nice lowriders/customs made of those cars and they look pretty nice. G***er would be such a radical way to go, or what do you think? I would appreciate some photos as well, even a photoshopped Camino g***er would be interesting to see...

    Thanks,
    mika

If you want to **** up a good car, do it. Otherwise, all it needs is some lowering and nice wheels, such as Astro or 5-spokes. The 59-60 El Camino body style just does not lend itself to the nose-high g***er type look.

seeing as how it's a one-off body style, i would have a hard time making a racer out of it but what the heck...it's yours so do what you want.
i have to agree with all the cruisers here and slam the sum***** to the weeds and drive the **** out of it.
hell, put a ricky-racer motor in it and make it a sledsleeper and blow the doors off the jacked up hot rods...best of both worlds.
and that's all i have to say about that.

    later dude

The fact of the matter is ... there were no sucessful 59 El Camino g***ers ... in compe***ion ... G***ers need traction and you do not have a lot of traction in a El Camino. El Caminos are, as a general rule, NOSE HEAVY ...

    Your vehicle ... your choice ... :D

No g***er for an El Camino, they are to distintive. Making it a g***er pushes it over the edge into something rediculous Just my humble opinon

Thanks for replies, both opinions seem to be same that I´ve thought... Pros and cons... Perhaps the most important reason NOT to make a g***er is that there never had any so there´s no history for that kind of act... That is so true. However that red ´60 looks pretty good, but so do the lowered 59´s as well, maybe even better... And I love the Bonneville style, but that didn´t come in to my mind while talking ´bout Camino. That´s a good advice, makes me think for sure.

59 El Caminos were the tow/push cars for the g***ers. (check the old pictures) They are just too cool and too rare to make a g***er out of one. Lower it a tad, 5 spokes and a stump puller 348. Then build a trailer for a more conventional g***er. Then you've got a kick *** rig.:D IMHO

I would hesitate turning that thing into a g***er cause you'd have no weight transfer- that's the whole reason the fronts were jacked up and engines moved back. You got all the weight in the front, no good for a drag car.

    But it would look cool........

    Me, I'd turn it custom

POSER g***er or REAL cool cruiser?
    Is this really a question?

IF you are going to actually RACE IT? build it as fast as TODAYS racing "secrets" and cl*** rules will let you, otherwise, keep it cool, low and slow.

elcaminos actually had a better weight ratio than the cars the were built off of. (impala, chevelle) so they are not nose heavy. why build another low elky like everyone else do somthing different.

Mine had a little bit more of a hot rod feel to it. Lowered 2-1/2" in the front, 3" exhaust exiting in front of the rear tires, and a loud big block!

I like the hot rod look on those cars best myself, like 59 elky's. Personally as cool as g***ers are, I wouldn't build one myself. I'd get tired of it too fast.

This is one of my all time favorites. That car just says "**** off" in the best way possible, don't it?
