I have a good friend who is hoping to find an 8"x10" color photo of this rod, or a photo that could be enlarged. Small photos of this rod appeared in the August, 1963 issue of Car Craft magazine little pages. It was owned by Dave Shaffer of the San Diego Prowlers car club. It is believed it was orange in color. Anybody have vintage car show or other photos of this rod? You can make my friend happy by helping with photos or additional information to identify this rod.
Might try here. The club website mentioned in the other links seems to be gone. https://www.facebook.com/sandiegoprowlers/ This thread talks about stuff, and this member was last here in '22. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/prowlers-car-club-turns-70-in-2017.1027662/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/members/sweet-low.243320/ more https://www.kustomrama.com/wiki/San_Diego_Prowlers https://www.sandiegoreader.com/news...-diego-prowlers-hot-rod-club-members-push-80/
I asked @Jimmy for the source of the photo he had posted on the unchopped thread, seen in post #1. Here is his response: Phil, Every so often, for inspiration, I search online for old photos of hot rods. I found the image you're asking about here: https://www.hotrod.com/features/lakes-racing-movie-cars-look-san-diegos-prowlers-hot-rod-club I hope you find this useful. Cheers, Jimmy
My old friend has been in touch with the club historian and others by phone. It's just hard to find stuff that 60 years old.
Let me see if I can get a hold of one of their past club presidents for you. I might have to dig a bit, but I still have his phone number around here somewhere. That club's members are getting up there pretty good in the age department, as you mentioned. Really close-knit club, though.
The Prowlers had a tent set up with club memorabilia and photo books etc at Cruising Grand in Escondido a "couple" of years ago - they have a large amount of stuff given them by members.
