The hot rod community lost a great one this week. Aussie Steve Dowsett known on the HAMB as WiredSpider passed away at his home in Clarksville Tn. 10/24/2025. Steve was a transplanted Australian who had lived and built hot rods in California, Colorado, and Tennessee. He was a walking encyclopedia of traditional hot rods and the people who built, drove, and raced them. He was a great friend, often traveling companion, and will be missed but never forgotten. 20210619_130349.jpg

I'm at a loss for words.. Steve was a great guy. I think I first met him at the Lonestar Roundup around 2006/2007. Was fortunate to run into him at Bonneville and other events in the following years.

We reconnected in late 2019 when I bought a '62 Ford wagon from him.
Three years ago he came to the Gathering at the Roc in Oklahoma and we caught up again, getting a chance to actually hang out and chat.

I really thought we'd be able to do that again.
Rest in Peace, Steve. You will be missed more than you know.

Well this*****s! I grew up around Steve and Co back in Australia and always tried to catch up with him on trips to the US. So many fun times and great memories. RIP Steve.

I was blessed to know him. Although I didn't get to spend much time with him, the times I was with him were very special. He knew more about American culture than I do. An amazing person who will be truly missed, God speeed Steve. I took the Bonneville photo of him while we were on our way to the pits many years ago. P1010046.jpeg

Sad to hear about Steve's passing. As soon as you said Wired Spider there was a connection as My Wife grew up in Clarksville and we lived there for a few yrs. Always had interesting things for sale, great projects, mags, etc. Never found the time to hook up and that 's My loss. Farewell, Steve!

No I wasn't in Steve's coupe, I was with Ed and EJ Kowalski and we were all on the way the pits. I looked over and there he was. I am fairly sure it was 2001.

  16. Sad news. I had known of Steve for years and finally got a chance to spend some time seeking shelter from the storm at HRR in Bowling Green last year under my too small shelter. I really looked forward to picking up where we left off. Rest in Peace Steve.

I considered Steve to be my best friend. We worked together, and made trips th Bonneville and shows together. After he moved to TN, I would drive out for the Bowling Green show. We'd also save time for distillery tours and Nashville. His door was always open for me. I could always count on him to give me an honest opinion , whether I wanted to hear it or not. He had a unique way of putting things in perspective. He had a great knowledge and respect for American history and culture. As well as anything hot rod related. I will miss him greatly. Godspeed my friend.

I like casinos. I like the smell, I like the sounds, I like the waitresses, I like the food, and I like the thrill of the hunt. There are plenty of upsides but when your losses outweigh your winnings, and your wallet is getting light, it definitely puts a damper on the entertainment. We seem to be losing a lot more than we are winning when it comes to our hot rod community in recent months. The wheels keep spinning but they're coming up lemons, and the fun is getting difficult to find.

Just because I didn't know this gentleman doesn't mean his loss isn't felt and mourned. My condolences to the family and friends of course and may he rest in eternal peace.

To the rest of us, we aren't done playing yet. Oh, you have to know when it is time for a nightcap and head to your room for the night to lick your wounds. But the morning brings new opportunity, the ATM withdraw limit resets after midnight, keep playing the game until the big pit boss closes your table. May you all be up until He does.

Met him only once; our conversation was memorable! Sad it was the only one. I think I was talking to him at the ROC the same time Malcolm was. Too many of these posts lately.
