    DONE!
The best part is it's my neighbor that sees me first and when I'm done I get to watch TV while he charges his ELECTRIC:confused:lawn mower just to finish his little yard.

Just happened on this shot of the Bomber station in Milwaukie Oregon, says 1957.
Sorry, F-book wouldn't let me copy the full size version.

Got it running pretty quickly, PO said it hadn't run in 10 years or so. Needs a radiator so that's in the works. PO bought it 40 years ago as you see it (minus the front bumper) he just maintained and enjoyed it all these years - he even had the original add from 1985

It's a typical hot rod from that period - looks like it was a racecar put back on the street - the ladder bars were hacked off, it looks like there was a pinned on hood or tilt nose at one time and there are still ball joints spacers in it..... underneath there are signs of various brackets and cross members that once littered the frame. When it was "restored" it got a '74 350 and '65 Muncie.

Not sure if I'm going to keep this one - once I sort it out and have some fun it may be for sale

I took this from the "artistic photos" thread, pretty neat artwork.

^^^I count 5 employees at that station. You can trust your car to the man that wears the star, but if they can afford 5 wages, I wouldn't trust the pump prices.

There no doubt are a couple of "hang arounds" in that bunch, ask me how I know!

Yet the price of gas back then was around $0.25 per gallon and that included full service, pump the gas wash the windshield and check the oil check the tires if asked, so I don't think the pump prices were exorbitant.

We can't see the pump prices in the drawing, and it is a sketch, not exactly historical data. I worked as a petroleum transfer engineer while a boy, there was 2 of us on the island at maximum, one in the garage on some nights. The night I was robbed I was the only one there. The thief got some gas and maybe 40 dollars. I didn't check his oil, but he didn't check under the till drawer. I seem to recall getting new ET mags shortly thereafter. Non related, of course.

  21. My high school sweetheart. Had it from 1966 until 2000. I still wish I hadn't sold it.

    Hello,

The local Bixby Knolls Texaco Gas Station had so many customers that it was hard for our friend to service all of the pumps on a busy day. Two rows of pumps, an office and a two car garage bay on a corner lot. The corner lot was one of the main entrances to the popular homes near a golf course and designer architects build models that were the popular style, back then.

When one hears of a neo-modern style of house with glass walls surrounding a inner courtyard, that was the popular style. Mostly single story homes, but as one got deeper toward the golf course, the huge two story homes started multiplying like the golf course bunnies.

Our friend earned a lot of money for a teenager. He bought a nice new 61 Pontiac Bonneville Hardtop with the fancy 8 lug spoke-fin wheels. He did not like to race, so, it was literally another form of garage queen. By garage, he always parked it in one of the open stalls without the floor lift and it was protected from the elements for his full time job after school.

Well, that Pontiac was certainly different. But, that blue color was pretty cool, including those odd ball, but great looking factory wheels were the best.

We stopped by and the parking lot at times looked like a hot rod sedan gathering. The burger spot parking lot was about a half block north of the Texaco Gas Station, so, he had a built in clientele. It was a great place to see our friends, if we were visiting our friend. When he was busy doing mechanical work or lube jobs at night, we helped him out by going to the car load of girls to ask how we could be of service. That always brought out a chuckle of laughs. Ha!

Until one night an older lady saw all of the hot rod sedans parked along the large lot and called the owner the next day. She said the cars were making a lot of noise and we were all “just hanging around.” Despite, the chance of her daughter being in the mix had no consequences. She told the owner those hot rod sedans had to go.

So, we all had to leave the lot until we came in for gas and talk to our friend. If we paid him to lube our cars, then we got to hang around as our cars were up in the lift. YRMV

The owner never had more than two workers at the most, despite the station being one of the busiest gas stations in all of Bixby Knolls. The additional attendant was hired during vacation times and holidays. The gas station was a great place to hang out, when the burger places were crowded or we had just left the nearby location. Our friend was a good worker and was always well paid.
