I like the look of a full wheel cover on the Shoebox Fords and after loosing an accessory trim ring that makes the factory cap look like a full one it’s time to go another route. Which cap would be your choice, I’m leaning towards the ‘54 Chevy like was on my favorite Valley Custom…..
The 54 Chevy ones look nice, there's a lot of good options though. I feel like 54 Ford caps are underrated, with the embossed center logo. 50-52 Olds as well. They're pricey and more commonly used, but 53 Cadillac caps are sure pretty, too. Lots of other options if you like flippers.
The clean look appeals to me more than flippers on a custom that has been cleaned of some of its factory frills.
I might end up getting the chrome wheels with spider caps eventually because I really like the look @Moriarity has on his hot rods. Plus I can leave a lot of the factory trim and all and still look custom
Color matched wheels with spiders and trim rings were pretty popular when I was growing up. Still kinda works.
I like the spider caps it gives it a hot rods feel to it. Moriarity suggested that I run these on my woodie and think they would look good on my sedan
Here are a couple more examples that I like. The first one was one Ron Dunns car when Valley Customs first built it and it was awarded the most beautiful custom of the year in 1953
That’s what I’m taking off but you do have to admit they are a good looking hubcap. Here’s what I had with the accessory trim rings
If I would have had a decent set of these, that’s what would be on mine. Do you already have these? Those 54 Chevy caps are cool too.
This was mine with a little different one. But, you probably already saw that. Problem is, I only have one good one. Actually, this one is aftermarket. But, I do have one good original.
A similar look, but better... Hello, I have always like your Ford Sedan. It is well done. All of the choices for hubcaps are fine, but the one we would have seen at mid 50s car shows and certainly during our teens would be one not shown. When one of the teenagers that came over to our house for the weekend drag racing movie action and car show, got his new Lancer flipper hubcaps, everyone wanted to try to see what their cars would look like with the set on their wheels. Yes, as the young teen was busy doing all of the service tech work. The Dodge Lancer 4 prong hubcaps were very popular during the late 50s and early 60s. Then fell out of favor for the the newish “mag” wheels or deeper chrome reversed wheels, later on during this era. Jnaki It looks good with your white wall tires and color of sedan. Now, it looks like a real 1950s-60s custom car… YRMV
I always like those wheel covers. The former owner of my Merc ran those in the 50's. I'm running 56 Olds Starfire's. I keep thinking about going back to the 1952-54 Olds.I really like them
