Remember the Pete & Jakes 32 sedan? Fenderless with a full hood. Anyway that's the color and finish I am going for. No on the orange frame!!

I always loved the R&M lacquer red oxide from the 70s-80s, seems it had more brown in it instead of red.[IMG]
    That's the stuff!

    Couldn't you fill by
    1. put lube in can, raise above fill port.
    2. When full, lower can to allow excess to drain back into it.
    3. Empty can into jug.
No removal of hose, just up, down and drain. Care in doing would be no mess, and only the can bracket is messed with. Make it a solid quick release can for the QC rear !

Just need to fab up or buy a drain pan when you quick change that can be poured into the can.

Sure could, but this way it's main objective is not to blow the seals out of the rear. Just happens to make the servicing a tad easier. It's a messy job either way!

I had a 17" line from the fill port up to the body connected to a breather mounted above and aft of the rear. First time out it filled the breather element with gear oil. So now I'll try this set up. If this doesn't work I guess I will pull an axle tube, drill it, tap it, clean it out and shove in the correct breather. I think the fill port is a lousy place for a vent. Time will tell.

Mocking up the door windows using stock 32 Ford pieces, I realized I was missing a flange on the front part of the window opening. I think Ford used the 30-31 window system, explaining why the front fuxzies are twice as wide as the back post fuxzies. So I laid up a piece cut it to fit, and gl***ed it in. So far so good. Driver's door hung and rough body work complete. Time to change oil, 20 miles in one year. I will be able to increase the mileage next year. Got 10W30 wt synthetic Pennzoil. I have been using Pennzoil since 1965. PXL_20251013_175301914.jpg

Well found a screw up. Engine always dripped a little oil after a run. Yep I put the thin 4 piece set of gaskets in. Back then I never heard of thick and thin gaskets. So I ordered a one piece reinforced gasket, longer bolts and a new drain! Fun, fun, fun! Luckily the pan can come out easily. Got both doors latching inside and out with all the pieces. Time to get the hood halfs on and latched. I gave up on this year, plan to drive the pants off of her next year. It's been over ten years since I started!! About time!! If Trump sends me that 2 grand I might have interior too!!

Took me a couple of times to figure that one out too. Thick one is a fair amount more $$ than the thin one. Hurst style front mount sure makes it easier. Your car looks awesome.

I have a Hurst front mount that I modified for clearance. My wife bought me a 350 sbc from Jegs along time ago. Found out the other day it's a Mexico crate engine, they all have the thick gasket pan. By the way, my wife is a shopper, she got me the 350/260, 3 year warranty, and a bunch of torque. Shipping was free $1300. I believe it was all new parts. I took it all apart. Checked everything, added a Thumper cam, ported and relieved the heads. .014 steel shim head gaskets. 1957 single point distributor, 600 double pump mechanical Holley and an aluminum intake, 57 generator, pulleys, and an aluminum water pump. I can fix that stuff. I grew up with that stuff. My first car was a 1957 Belair. Put in a junk yard 327 and a 3 speed. Didn't have a rear trans mount, the stock configuration. Weird!! Miss those days.

  17. 10 years. It's surprising how fast that went by. Young people may not understand but all of us older people do. :)

  18. I hear ya. Time has definitely shifted into high gear. The days, weeks, months, etc. are flying by. It's scary.

The new thick oil pan gasket arrived, that should do the trick. Also bought longer stainless bolts, and a new drain plug. Now to make a mess. Anybody have any tips on the install?

    Retorque after a heat cycle.
I used fancy stainless bolts on an oil pan and after a month, I was under the car.
3 or 4 loose, a couple missing. After getting that straightened out, no more issues.

    Sure
(Speaking to you as if you are fifteen years old), there is this one thing you need to do at least once in your life.
While you are at it, change out the filter too, as you are unscrewing the oil filter (full of oil), allow the filter to slip out of your hand, oh yeah, make sure to have oily hands, let it fall down into the oil, splashing dirty oil all over you and the floor, oh yeah, also, make sure you don't put any cardbord down around the area you are working.
Oh yeah, and don't forget to first put on a fresh clean shirt!
    You're welcome.

    .
Thanks. Been there, done that a few times. I even punched a hole in the filter and let it drain overnight. I also have a big stash of cardboard for just such occasions! So this is what experience is like??? Lots of rags close by and the lacquer thinner can too!!

There's a warning on the stainless bolt pack, they recommended lock***e on all bolts. I will try that!! Plus I will check the torque every time I get down there!! Tee shirt, white long sleeve, it helps soak up the oil!!

My apologies, had my head up my **** , they were .015 installed. 004 would be a *****. That's equivalent to toilet paper!! I believe I got them from Summit. I think it took the compression from 8.5 to 1 up to 9.2. to 1. We run high test in all our cars anyway! I could hear and feel the change!!
